    So dope. Your killing it man . Picked my board back up after Dr. I needed to exercise. Just dropped in on a 5 ft bowl after mental blocking it for a month lol. I used to Ollie garbage cans and used to skate anything back in the day. Now Im So stoked to just be pumping around the bowls in my city . I’m 50 and my Ollie knee is thrashed so I can’t go big but I’m happy just doing this. Watching you go big is so encouraging bro. Rock on brother. Thanks for the vids. Mike ATL.

    Been doing melons for years now. I took my time with it. I started by hopping up and turning around on the lower part of the transition and then inched my way up little by little until finally I was making it over the coping! Its my favorite trick to do. Bs airs just feel amazing and its so much fun. I have hung up before which is scary so be careful, especially in round bowls where you need to pull out more.

    Good tip about starting out by grabbing board while doing kick turn down low then getting higher with it. That’s something I feel like I could comfortably start trying.

    At 42 years of age, the best tip I can give anyone for learning a new trick is to commit to going to the same spot and trying the same trick every single day for 2 weeks straight. There exists this mentality of , "okay, Im going to get it today." that just doesn't serve you very well. This applies to any trick, but especially learning airs on vert is a very incremental progression of gaining the feeling. Don't spend 6 hrs one day taking slams where you need a week to recover, just commit to working on your new trick 20-30 minutes everyday for 2 weeks, and wether you get it or not, you will have progressed enough to be comfortable with the process and not get frustrated. That's my two cents for what its worth. Thanks.

    talk about the pump. its seems like there is not a big pump or any pump at the bottom of the transition. it seems like the pump is near the top or its just a by product of the crouch and grab. any way. i'm also learning backsides and when ever i kinda just ride up the transition without pumping i feel like my backsides are more stable. any truth to this?

  • @ZackDowdy

    @ZackDowdy

    Жыл бұрын

    Pump is pretty similar to backside grind. A lot of my pump happens at the bottom and the decompression of said pump happens in the air, when landing I'm more focused on impact, the pumping comes after. Something I should touch on in future videos.

    Zack i think trying to land more or always on your knees is a bad habit. I agree for learning tricks its great, but once you got the trick you should practive it bailing with kneeslides, because if not you completely unlearn to skate without pads and also worst case maybe on a fall you land on your knees not wearing pads, cause your brain is wired to it. And yes, even if you commit to always wear pads, there are days where you just forget the pads at home and than you could not skate. So: 1. Pad up 2. Land the trick 3. Practice landing and bailing with running out 4. Practice trick without pads.

  • @ZackDowdy

    My backside airs don’t know why my front foot would be flailing while my back foot was fine … front side airs was my jam … wish I could have gotten backside airs down better… knew sliding allows you to try so much more new stuff .. why run out when you can slide out better on your joints and better fall ..

    @@ZackDowdy wow, that would be awesome! This is very important topic. Many people are after ACL, meniscus surgery (I fcked everything in my knee, I'm after 3 surgeries, waiting for the next...) and they can't get full ability as before injury. Also, this is a bit scary to keep this in mind and skate fully relaxed. This is just a topic for few good videos from physical and mental side.

  • @ZackDowdy

    I think nose is easier to grab, but less controlled than behind the foot. Something that really helped me fix this was trying to bring my board to my hand, vs reaching for the board.
