Minun sisäinen "ysin oppilas äikässä 30 vuotta sitten" heräsi ja pahastui, kun kirjoitit tossa johdannossas "ruoka sanoja." Se on yhdyssana. Edit: Samoin mangojogurtti.

I love this way of learning or relearning, I can never remember when it's vocabulary to learn without a situation. I was born in Finland, I commuted between Finland and several countries for my first 10 years, then I moved in with my mother who had gone to live in France, at 13 I still couldn't write correctly in French so she took me out of Finnish lessons to focus on French. I had a hard time at first when I decided to start learning Finnish again, I was doing well speaking once I realized that the Finnish I had remembered in my childhood was not official Finnish, but local Savo Finnish with a lot of Finnish-Swedish, I have a lot of writing skills and in vocabulary.

That was quite a new approach! I like it. It will take me a while to digest it. I would enjoy more video's of this type especially with the English + Finnish line and you talking Finnish the way you would normally talk Finnish. That way I can test my listening skills at the same time as learning new stuff. Remember we are able to halt the video, so the speach doesn't have to mirror the written explanations like when you write "xxxx in Finnish == yyyy in English". But that could be just me, so I hope other people will weigh in as well. P.S. I usually keep peanut butter in the cupboard not in the fridge, but that could be me too.

Glad you think so, yeah I will def try to sprinkle more like this in my regular feed. The subtitles take forever to do so maybe more after exam season is over xD Oh yeah I usually keep it on the counter too, but I don't really have a food pantry in my dorm room so unless I want to keep it in the communal kitchen it's easiest to keep it in the fridge :P

@@KatChatsFinnish I was thinking about your remark: "The subtitles take forever to do.". What if you would find a different way to convey the same info, without the extraordinarily lenghty subtitles? Now my ideas are limited because I don't know the process around youtube producing. Maybe you could take a leaf out of the book of FinnishWithAnna and use prepreparated pages where you explain stuff. Then do the subtitles in Finnish only without the English explanations. It is even possible that youtube can automatically generate subtitles for you to improve? The session would look like this: explain first and do after, or the other way around. It would require you to prepare your sessions with the text in a document. Personnally I use LaTeX, but most people have no idea what this is, so a textprocessor like word or a presentationtool like powerpoint should be fine. Bottomline is: try to save yourself work and time, without losing too much content.

@@kirkendauhl6990 Your friend had got it wrong. Actually Finland (and the Scandionavia/Nordic countries in general) has one of the world's highest rates for lactose tolerance, not intolerance. There are places/countries in the world where almost everyone is lactose intolerant. The reason for those lactose-free options in Finland is because milk is so widely used in the Finnish cuisine, so alternatives are needed for the lactose intolerant people.
