Whether you know it or not you have written middleware if you have done any work with express. Middleware is simply any function that occurs between the time the server receives a request and the time a server sends a response. Understanding exactly how to use middleware effectively, though, can be challenging which is why in this video I cover everything you need to know about middleware in express. I even cover the most common problems I see with middleware at the end of the video.

Node.Js Senior developer here, And I'm a subscribed in you channel for two main reasons 1 - Your way to simplify things, even though I know most of them all, I still enjoy watching you explaining them. 2 - No matter how experienced you are, you still can learn some useful tricks from others even for basics. Keep it up man :)

every single time? So not a fast learner then ;-p
Every beginner to backend MUST watch this video. Learning node, express, mongoose, etc all at once, I didn't know where one ended and the other began. This vid and the blog cleared up all the confusion, and your explanation of next() was better than the official documentation. Thanks a lot Kyle, for explaining what middleware really is so well! 😊
Everyone else I try to learn from zooms past topics like this and just expects you to get it. Thank you for your clarity and systematic representation of flow and function.
You have a very clear straight to the point way of explaining things, your tutorials are super time efficient to watch, as everything you talk about is relevant to what you're trying to explain.
I have been trying to understand what middleware is for the last two weeks. Went through a ridiculous amount of documentation with no clarification. And then this randomly pops up in my recommendations and everything is suddenly so clear. Thank you so much, Kyle!
It is actually unreal how good you are at teaching, great job man.
You are a phenomenal teacher, I can always rely on your tutorials if there's anything I don't understand about web dev, your videos are really empowering and super helpful!
It's been a while since I enjoyed learning something. I literally laughed! You are definitely one of the best teachers out there!
I am working on a project using Express and had several questions about middleware. You literally explained all of them one after the other. Amazing work.
bro thanks again. U r just different from the rest of the tutors out here on youtube. Clear, concise and more importantly teaching best practices
Exactly I ran through the same, cannot use headers .... And here you are .... explaining things so easily, crisp and clear !! Thanks man 👍
Your explanation of middleware is just on point....the best video to understand middleware in just 15 mins which just covers everything 💗
You are definitely a great teacher. After watching your videos, I always feel my one thumbs-up has been too small for your gratitude. Thank you for making these videos.
Thanks for the great video. I wish more videos were like this. So many code-along tutorials leave newbies thinking they're learning better than they are. Great video.
Hey Kyle, I had been looking for detailed explanation of express middleware. Thank you for this video! You went above and beyond. Subscribed.
Thank you so much for including a blog post too. Love you explanations. But for a quick reference or a lookup on a specific part. The video format is rarely friendly. Love to read guides
If I ever need to know something and see that you have created content that explains it I watch it because I know it's going to be excellent. But this was the first time I read one of your posts... and now I'm an even bigger fan, thank you!
This is a topic that has always been dull to me even though I use it quite a bit, and it always feels uncomfortable to use something you do not fully understand You have clarified the issue completely !!!
Bro you are like a god of nodejs . I completely understood middle ware. Your video is awesome. Please keep making more such videos. You are a great teacher.
The only thing I hate about this video is it ended! This is gold content right here! ❤
I appreciate that a lot of preparation has gone into making this video... Thanks, man.
This was the first video i ever on KZread without wasting time and giving all the contents surely related to the topic. The topic is well covered and my concepts are just polished again. Just make me blush .. thanks. Btw it was first to watch your video. I do subscribe.
Thank you for sharing, you always give us valuable content in the easiest way, keep it up!
I just started learning NodeJS and Express and this video really helps me to further my understanding about Middlewares! Thanks so much for this!
Luv you man I spended more than 2 hours in an error in my website but couldn't found so i left it after 2 hours i saw your video and figured out my error luv you so much😄❤❤❤
The distinction between next() function call and return was the vital information and I am glad you addressed it
Thanks for share, love these short tutorials!
Amazing simple explanation with examples, this is how documentation should be written, with emphasis on certain behaviours of something instead of dull wall of text from which you might or might not figure something out and, you go to youtube for human explanation, great work man!
This guy is just an absolute beast. Can't believe I bought a course and didn't understand a thing about express, all I did was to copy til' I watched this video.
This is what i needed. Thank you!!!
this is the best video on middleware on you tube great job mate👍
I absolutely love your content. Between Boot-camp, Treehouse, and you, I'm almost competent.
I'm about to watch this video, and the comments gladden my heart...I can't wait to watch it
I was already aware of what middleware is but this explanation made it much clearer. Thanks!
Great video Kyle. Your explanations are always so clear and easy to understand.
Man this was by far the best explanation of middlewares ,,, nothing fancy or complex, just to the point explanation of what needs to be known if you actually want to learn the concept and not some block of code... the explanation after 11:00 is missed by all other videos I have watched on this topic and which is so essential in actual application of middlewares,,, for my case I was looking for some kind of explanation of how does logger functions log response times if they are initialized as first middleware as in it should have passed to next middleware before sending response,,, But all is now clear and I am able to digest the functioning of it...
Great Job Kyle? I find your content really useful, the blog is a nice touch. i will use that. TY
Amazing video kyle , thank you very much , in just about 15 minutes , I learned what i wouldn't learn in 2 hours , thank you again
Hey Kyle, you probably won't see this, but for those who are in the comments, these videos he puts together are amazing. I am currently enrolled in a Software Engineering course, and when we get the new weekly material, the first thing I do is check to see if Kyle has a video on it. Most of the time he does. I have learned so much from you. One day I will land a great job thanks to your videos, and then I will be able to repay you somehow.

Simply the best videos explaining concepts clearly & to the point.
Finally I understood middleware correctly when you explained in last section before & after example. Great work man!
My guy always good to see u! 🌹🙏🔥
Excellent video, really helpful for beginners (especially the explanation on how next() is not the same as function return). But i think its also important to explain on error-handling middleware, that would definitely help the beginners to explore the error-handling pattern in express js
Such a nice explanation, a little deeper to basics
It's amazing how I can understand all of ur videos. You're an amazing teacher
