Learn English Grammar: INDIRECT SPEECH (REPORTED SPEECH)
Learn how to use reported speech with me and my sister Audra. “Reported speech” is when we say what someone else said. This is also called “indirect speech”. For example, Audra says, “I am Emma’s sister.” When I tell other people what Audra said, I would say the following: “Audra said she was my sister.” We use reported speech with verbs like “said”, “told”, and “ask”. We use reported speech frequently in conversation. Watch this class to learn about reported speech and see many examples. Test yourself with the quiz at www.engvid.com/learn-english-...

Hi, Thank you for teaching other people english. Which is correct, " No one talks about it" or "No one talk about it" and why? Thanks :)
Reported speech is very strange to me, and I still find it unlogic I'll give you an example to show you what I mean let's imagine that I am talking to a woman and she tells me this sentence " we have been married for 10 years" If I want to put this sentence into indirect speech, I'll have to use the past perfect tense and say it like that " she told me they had been married for 10 years " this sentence means to me only one thing, which is they aren't married anymore. ( it sounds like she says they were married for a period of time, but they currently aren't) why can't we simply say "she told me they have been married for 10 years" it's easy , simple and understandable.

You nailed it brother! Yes, if you convert this sentence into past perfect progressive that meaning going to wrong totally. That's because she did not explain the rules of present perfect progressive.i recommend yo to watch the video again.

Thank you for the lesson! I'd like to look at Audra's tattoos ))
Excellent
good morning from Italy, happy new year and thanks for the video. as other listeners said I've found this rule a little strange. I understood the rule but I miss the logic. if Audra told me just a second ago that she is (was) fine and I immediately report it to my friend who i'm talking (by phone) i would say "audra told me (that) she is fine" because only three seconds have passed, so she is still fine. so my question is : in the everyday life do you use this rule ? or is it quite formal and actually you say to your friend "Audra ( has just) told me she IS fine". thank you for your work !!
❤❤ Can you please make a video about phrase verbs "LOCK" ( lock up, lock away, lock down, lock out)
Thank you, what’s the website for the practice test please?
