Hello can somebody explain to me what is the difference in these words: (de woning --> het woninkje) and (het ding--> het dingetje)? Because both words end with ing so why they end differently when we convert them into their diminutive form? Thank you!
@margaritagoldberg3767
Жыл бұрын
hey, maybe a tad too late, but i think it's because in ding it's not ing that is the end of the word (like in woning), but because it's a i (short vowel) followed by ng. So it's ding -> dingetje, not dinkje. Same as de bal (short vowel followed by l, r, m, n, ng) -> het balletje.
Fantastic!
the correct is Mes or Mesje?

Both are correct, but "mesje" is a diminutive, meaning that you can use it to refer to a small knife. "Mes" simply means knife with no specifics on what size it may be.

Why everything has (je) at the end while it doesn't exist in the dictionary?

Ali Hasan I’m also learning but I learned that all word that use the (je) in the end, it’s mean, diminutive mode. Exemples: House = Huis / Little house = Huisje

This is complete gibberish in Dutch. The words themselves are correct Dutch words, but in the way you used them, the story makes no sense whatsoever. The first sentence translates to: “I went to the Dutch embassy in the quick to do with bank which is moving to Mechelen in 13 april”. Say what? 😅
