I've only been sewing a few years, and don't normally alter stuff. But I need to shorten 3 pairs of my pants... The jeans patch was a good technique, as was the pants hemming. But the finished dress hem was uneven. For a neat hem all around, I would have measured the seam allowance instead of 'eye balling' it and cutting it freehand.

May add details of what kind of stitch and thread and how to ensure it's secure.. you just basically say cut and sew!

I apologize about that. I've added links to the written versions of these DIYS with more photos where the stitching is more visible as well as more explanation per each step. I used basic quilting thread. To secure my stitch I simply used the reverse lever for 2 seconds and I did a straight stitch on all the hems.

I have a question, when shortening a dress, skirt or pants, should I leave it a little longer in the back? Because of my bum, wouldn’t it raise the fabric up a little compared to my front?

It depends on which type of pants. If it jeans it's a little harder then dress pants. It takes about 30-40 minutes to do jeans and 15 minutes to do dress pants. If you know how to do it. It would be hard to explain over a message this is something I would have to do a video on.
