Leaking Monaco RV Slide-Out Repair Technique
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Here is the promised follow up video on the 2005 Monaco Windsor slide-out leak. Sorry about the moving camera, I was rushing to beat the sunset and had little time for camera work. Hopefully, this video helps someone somewhere.
I used Proflex from Geocel for the roof itself
I used Sikaflex 505 to seal the fascia and moldings
Thanks!

As a new RV tech, the words 'this was not supposed to take this long' are on the tip of my tongue EVERY day. LOL
Always hard to figure out how to fix something that wasn’t built right in the first place. Awesome job on taking it apart diagnosing the issue and repairing it. Hard to find true craftsman these days!

James, I will be very very surprised if that slide-out leaks in that location again. You did great job really making it very difficult for water to get into that again.

At around 11:30 into the video, you mentioned it wasn't suppose to take this long. If I was the owner of the coach, I will say, better to take time, do it right the first time instead of doing an quick sloppy job that won't last. Great job!

One of the most important things to owning a RV is to keep it from leaking ! A leak will destroy a camper. My opinion is, as soon as possible get a carport to park it under. Well worth the money and will help keep it nice.

why did you show a camping world bag? definatly a ooooops. not a fan of that place but there is one 5 minutes away so i buy supplies there all the time also. point of this post is i bought a 97 gulf stream sun sport 32 ft with the 460 ford f 35 chassis that had minimal damage but im restoring it to better than new condition. you are a plethura of information. i love your videos and i watch them all the time just to pick up tips and tricks so i can learn more . most importantly that no 2 are built the same and dont be afraid to modify something that is obviously not done effectively. anyhow, point being, your videos have probably saved me 10 grand so far easy and you give me the confidence and know how to do things myself. best tip thus far is the expanding foam while stiffing the roof. that saved me a ton of work and instead of having to replace my roof now ive got it fixed so i can hold off for a year or so. im just having a hard time finding that red adhesive glue that sticks to the foam. cant find it anywhere. camping places wont sell it but they sure will sell a new roof where they use it to glue the new luan down. lol. and in your honest opinion, is that a decent unit? anything i need to check on that may be concerning after 25 years?
As a tip, sharpie a straight line on the roof as a reference to keep the tape from wrinkling. I've done this repair in a half-effort way on my slide out and it makes the tape easier to apply.

James they tell me to buy a 2005 to 2008. Im looking at one but I tell you when I watch all your videos it makes me realize how much work I may be getting into. Since I have good hands being a contractor in my past working life I know I feel comfortable repairing almost anything and I have the tools. Im starting to think my spare time RVing will be spent working on any used rig I buy which is not really a bad thing for me at least. Lastly considering shop fees for RV repair (Im guessing $100 to $150 an hour) I can see how expensive an older coach could really be. Its kind of scary to jump in. Thank you for all your videos. Excellent work.
I have watched this more than a year ago. Well, now I have the same thing😅, am watching it again, probably several times to learn how to do this. Slides are really difficult to work on.

Great video. Love what you are doing! Need advice. Gear motor above one of my slides leaked grease for some reason. EPDM roof on slide did not like it and it bubbled up. No leaks but wondering how to patch it or should I replace entire slide roof. Do you have any videos or guidance? Thanks!
James, I'm facing a similar repair on a Fleetwood Southwind. I'd be interested in knowing what the cost was on this repair or if it is easier....how many labor hours were involved. Thanks for the great video.

James, thank you for taking some of the mystery out of these seals! I need to replace my top seal due to sun damage (before slide topper). Thankfully I have a carport to work under. Question please, how much mechanical work (brakes/shocks/general undercarriage) do you do as compared to the remainder of the coach? Also, do you have a personal preference, towable or A,B,C coaches that you prefer to work on? Appreciate all your videos!

Hi Bob. Great video as usual and very helpful. I have a similar 2005 Monaco Safari Cheetah that also uses two bulb wiper press on rubber seals on the slides. I have 3 slides where the gaskets are damaged at the top corners. I am having difficulty finding a source of OEM equivalent replacement seal material. that's very difficult as most 5th wheels use 3-4 slide types on one trailer. I have found the hydraulic ram with rack timing to be the most robust and reliable.

They usually age out after 15 years, so it is not very common. I wouldnt change them unless they were damaged

Do you recommend NO SLIDEOUTS... or buy them and be ready to fix them. Very good lesson... I am scared of the slideouts now and think we need to go back to our plan of a class A with no slideouts
@AZExpert
2 жыл бұрын
All slide outs leak. If you need the space? Get them knowing they will leak and require extra maintenance.
I find the use of so much sticky stuff to be puzzling when all that would need to be done is a redesign using a joining of two intermeshing metal parts placing tension upon a compressed, composite seal in between. It seems that this is commercially institutionalized planned obsolescence.
Would you say these issues were caused more by design flaw, or poor workmanship? Great video by the way.
@AZExpert
3 жыл бұрын
Looks like poor workmanship mostly.The trim on top was never sealed.
