Leaf Filter

Going onto your roof to clean out gutters is a hassle, but it's more of a hassle when the gutter protection system you buy gives you more trouble that before you bought it! We're helping consumers all over the US get the customer service they deserve.

Years ago my company did leaf filter jobs. We would do the mesh filter as well as gutter replacement. One day we show up at a trailer park to one of their jobs and find out that the company had charged this trailer owner $10,000 for new 6in gutter and mesh filter. There were three runs of gutter total on the customers trailer, maybe 120ft total. For my company to come in today and do that much gutter and install a leaf filter that is aluminum and a product that actually works would be somewhere sub $2000. Leaf filter is not only a scam but criminal

My husband and I experienced exactly what your report is talking about, We have the same problem Mary has, The mesh is keeping the water from draining into the gutter and the tops of the gutters are all covered with pin oak debris and pollen, The sales man sat right across from us and lied to our faces about how these where going to work. He showed us how debris would slide right off the mesh. Now I would like them removed from my gutters and I can hire someone to come every few months and clean them out as our house is surrounded by large oak trees and my husband is getting to old to climb to the second story to clean them out. I feel I unfairly taken advantage of, we don't have that kind of money to just throw away. I would love to get our money back maybe i can have the trees cut down for what it cost us to have them installed. Terrible company I will never recommend them and will be happy to speak against them.

I work at a local gutter company in WA state and Leaf Filter is the biggest scam I've ever seen! They send a rep from the company out to do an estimate, make promises and leave... than they sub the work out to some other company who doesn't care about doing a good job. Then no one is on the hook for the "warranty" they offer. Total scam!!

You nailed it. Funny how they don't mention the ice that builds up on them in the winter, causing water to flow over the gutter instead of in. They won't give you an accurate price the first time. The first price is astronomical. Then the rep acts like he "finds" some discounts.....usually a call to his "boss" to make sure a price lower would be acceptable. On average it's 4K to 7K per install(no gutter purchase) Good thing is they try to get installers out there the same or next day. You know ....so the customer won't get buyers remorse and cancel....as there is no returns. The installers are all contractors. Usually over worked....which leads to half baked work. They have inspections that occur with an actual leaf filter employee, who will fix minor things they find wrong. (Like on every inspection), however even if it's done wrong....and warrants a contractor to return, they will ignore it. As long as the customer doesn't see it. Also, the warranty is also void if a customer decides to pop a panel to check work or for any other reason.

Had a salesman come out just the other day. Quoted me at $5,200. I told him he was nuts and that my entire siding job cost less than that. He then tried to entice me at $3,200, I then told him both my neighbors got guards installed by other places for less than a thousand. He amazingly came back with an offer of $976.00, when I told him that I wanted to consider for a few days he got overly animated and began to raise his voice. He refused to accept my considerations at all and strong armed me into signing an agreement or lose that price offer, at that point I was just beat down mentally by his aggressive tactics for over 2 hours. Soon as he left I immediately did some researching on my own, I called the company less than an hour after he left along with sending the company an email cancelling the install as you have 3 days to do this in my state. I demanded written verification by email of the cancellation just because I didn't trust them. I also made it clear in the email that they did not have my permission to come on my premises at any point to perform any work effective immediately. Make sure there is no wiggle room for them if you call and cancel. This outfit should be shut down because they bring a lot of financial harm to the elderly.

In the remodeling industry a comission is based on how over the companies basic cost they go. A basic comission of say 4 to 5 % but as you go over that starting point the comission increases to 10 to 12 % or more. But if he owns the rights to sell product skys the limit. I sold kithens my average was 10% But some jobs I took 5%.. Salesperson can ask anything he thinks he can get..

Well most cases are roof is to steep. Gutters are to small. For that product the gutters have to be installed lower than normal. But any gutter gaurd will have a overflow run off. Been doing it for over 10 yrs. Home owners just need to just get gutters, then maintain them at least 2 times a year. Late spring, early winter. But leaf filter is a over priced junk

  • @AKDanMusicMan

I spent about $8000 on Leaf Filter gutter covers for our house. When it rains the water flows right over the gutter covers and into the landscaping. They sold it to me saying I would NEVER need to get on a ladder to clean again. That was a lie. The asphalt shingles shed onto the gutter covers and when I got up on a ladder, I could see that I would indeed need to periodically brush off the gutter covers, which defeated the purpose completely. I will find another solution for my new house.

@@glyphxr8164 it’s not the installers fault that the product collects bits from the shingles and doesn’t shed them. When I called Leaf Filter to have them come fix it, they said the salesman should have never said you’d never need to get on a ladder again because they admitted their product could still require periodic brushing off to keep flow at the maximum possible. For light to medium rain it worked fine but anything heavier and the water cascades over the top and into my landscaping. It’s misleading sales tactics and after having the product for 6 years I will not use them again.

No gutter guard is maintenance free. None. So, instead of paying a rip-off company that lies to your face about this, do yourself a favor and just pay someone to clean your gutters on a regular basis. An alternative is to go to Home Depot and buy GutterGlove, micro mesh gutter guards and install them yourself. The product is better than Leaf Filters and will cost you a penny on a dollar in materials. I installed them on my home 4 years ago. For maintenance, I go on the upper roof and blow off the debris with a leaf blower. With any matted debris (tassels, helicopters etc.), I rub the end of the leaf blower on the covers to dislodge and blow the stuff away. For the lower roof (garage, family), I use an extension pole with a brush if I see an accumulation. I was 68 years old when I installed them and used to get up on the roof 4 to 6 times a year. I have cleaned the upper guards 2 times since I installed them.

You are supposed to be shown pictures or offered the opportunity to walk after completion. Contractor being over worked is the contractors fault. Most of us are only allowed 1 maybe 2 installs a day

@@brandeegrier5121 don't even try that crap with me. I used to inspect the work that you installers do. Almost every job I had to fix things. In some cases I had to do a complete removal because they couldn't even get the screen placement the correct way. Few are willing to get up on a ladder to inspect your work. The whole point of them getting those things installed is so they don't have to get up on a ladder. They just expect the job to be done correctly however because the work sucks, installers generally take the easy way out. The reason why installers are so overworked is because it's not a great job and few people want to do it. They could improve the amount of installers they have by purchasing company vehicles and hiring actual employees with benefits to do it.

I've had them for 2 years and have had zero issues with them and we have got some absolute deluge downpours the only section of the roof that had an issue which I've remedied was in a valley where two large roof lines came together and it was too much water volume for the filter to handle it would just shoot right over the top of it. more concerned with leaves and trash and other things getting into it we have tulip poplars around the house red maples which have those spinny helicopter seeds and a lot of leaves that drop in the fall even though our house is a little bit away from the tree line a lot of it would still blow onto the roof we get nothing in the gutter anymore and overall they work great.

I see all the complaints here and watched the video. Looks to me like the customers think it's going to be maintenance free which is never the case with anything you buy. Also, looks like each example clip of the filter not working is due to lack of cleaning off the debris buildup on the roof and on the gutters. Of course it's going to clog when you don't take care of it. I'm sure this product isn't right for everyone. Do your research before you buy any type of home product.

Definitely not a product I would recommend. The guards will not shed leaves in the valleys. And pollen clogs up the screen mesh. I am still climbing up on my roof several times a year with the leaf blower to clean off the leaves. And probably once a year with the garden hose to clean off dust and pollen. Don't buy if you have any trees near your home.

This product doesnt work. leaves and other debris clog the screen. stay on top and water flows over. Yes it does its on the place I rent.. When it rains hard very little water comes out the downspout.. I check it.. screens are very easlly clogged... I used water louv in NJ and was transfered to Hong kong 5 years I climbed a ladder to look perfectly clean gutters and there were zero leaves stuck on the product.. The other house I had was a product that was open at front curved to allow water and debris out..BUT birds would nest in the freakin gutters. They also nailed on top of my shingles and it caused damage to my paint it all bubbled.. Never allow product on top of the shingles. I even did a video for the competition. Now I said it all..

The gutter guard business is a huge, money-grab that focuses on older/elderly people. Some people are paying over $10,000 to have guards installed on their homes. -Just think of how many gutter cleanings $10,000 could give you over the years.

I install for them I'm going to point this out . One you have to mainline your gutters just like anything else. And actually clear the top for the leave like what your are explained when the install happens. Other wise no it won't work the way its supposed to. And 2. If it was not inspected after install or installed correctly the way they are made will not function properly there is a slope to which it needs to be installed for the water to run the way it needs to. Long story short. You still need to clear off the leaves.

I own a eavestrough installation business here in Alberta Canada. So many of my competitors have teamed up with various so called leaf protection systems. They all have the big lifetime warranty prominently on their websites and up sale homeowners telling them you will never have to clean your gutters again. Lies and crooks. First off read the fine print on warranty one just covers the shape of the product nothing else. I tell my customers. Regular cleaning done by us or another cleaning company. I don't recommend anyone going on a ladder because it's dangerous work. Depending on amount of tress you may need a cleaning a few times a year. If they insist I tell them expanded metal for big leaves any fine mesh for needles just collects and water runs right off the top. Unfortunately it's part of living around trees. Its very important to keep gutters clean and take care of any issues. No reason gutters should not last 20-30 years when installed correctly and maintained. Stay away from these products. I'm stunned at the prices they charge down there. My cost on your main brand is $4 per ft. On a house with 150 eaves thats 600 materials and getting a $1 a ft for instal thats an extra $750 and 90% of people won't pay that on top of approx $1300 install. These manufacturers are making this stuff for $0.50 a ft at the most. ANYONE who sells this to a home owner is a scammer.
