As of last week, today is 10/18/22 "Funny Girl" was at 100% capacity. Only 4 other shows did that last week, one of which was some old show nobody ever heard of called "Hamilton." 😉It has not hit 100% capacity since opening last May, the best it did was an opening week at 95%. It had some respectable grosses, especially the first few weeks, which may have been advance sales before the reviews came out. Mid-July it dipped to a low of 65% and during Beanie's last week ending July 31st, it was at 71%. So Lea's presence along with positive reviews seems to mean the show is finally a hit.

But in her defense every single production that I’ve ever seen a funny girl this song is always lacking it’s as if no one knows how to make it funny and it’s cute how they copied the “I’d rather be blue”staging and shyness minus the roller skates but IMO she came out of the awkward shyness at the beginning too fast and then was super sharp on the dance moves which is problematic for getting booted from Keanies (oops spelling sorry) I hope I don’t get hate mail for saying this because I’m literally trying to fly from Alaska and save every penny so that I can see this production and I love love love Lea and am beyond thrilled for her FINALLY getting to live her dream.. something almost no one gets to do in their lifetime. But that said I’d have been much more excited to see what they should have come up with for “Cornet Man” not a stolen scene from the movie that goes with a completely different song altogether. If they couldn’t come up with SOMEthing for the actual song in the script maybe they should’ve just done “I’d rather be blue” into “Roller Skate Rag” b/c those are two totally great numbers and fun. Why is the opening of the song cut?

It was cut back in 1964 after the album was recorded - it's no longer in the printed score. It's a loss... when I presented the number a few years ago with my favorite singer, I put it back.
The Girl can perform! One note...too fast from hesitant..to full blown production number. When Streisand did I'd rather be Blue in the movie...the confidence was gradual. I say, for this number...leave out the awkward steps...and just leave in "Smile"...then go into the number.
Did she touch something at the end? 😂
