Le Diable Noir by Georges Melies (1905)
A traveler at an inn is harassed by a mischievous devil in his room.
(In 1913 Georges Méliès' film company was forced into bankruptcy by the large French and American studios and his company was bought out of receivership by Pathé Frères. After being driven out of business Méliès became a toy salesman at the Montparnasse station. In 1932 the Cinema Society gave Méliès a home in Chateau D'Orly. Melies did not grasp the value of his films, and having some 500 films recorded on cellulose the French Army seized most of this stock to be melted down into boot heels during World War I. Many of the other films were sold to be recycled into new film. As a result many of these films do not exist today.)

I didn't watch Hugo until last night, Im really glad that it may turn some people on to what a brillant filmmaker Georges Melies truly was.
the most amazing thing about melies i think is that there was nothing really before it. there are hardly ever any new ideas in cinema, especially now. but at that time, they pretty much had to work out ways of doing anything they wanted to do. and melies in particular invented so many ways of doing things that are still used today.
103 years ago ! The 3 minutes and 53 seconds of this film seemed liked 30 seconds. Georges Melies was a pioneer with a sense of humor and imagination. He should receive an honerary Oscar.

Watch "Hugo" (2013) - It is made like if Meliès did a movie nowdays. And Meliès is even a carachter in the movie!

Não gostei muito, é meio mal feito. A câmera fica tremendo, a tela fica chuviscando, não tem cor, os efeitos de sumiço e outros não foram bem feitos e não está numa resolução boa o suficiente pra no mínimo identificar os rostos dos personagens.

Unfortunately, his career as a filmmaker was destroyed by people pirating his footage. Luckily, the French government, noting his great success and contribution to the art, found him an apartment where he quietly lived out the rest of his life.

@SuperJadeDragon I think youre reading too much into this. People are people regardless of race, so why bring race into it?
