In the 1950s, life pulsates in Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel. American soldiers throw money around, people drink, dance and party in bars and nightclubs. In the middle of it all are some Jews who have survived the horrors of the Shoah but lost everything. Here they build a new life for themselves - bars and shops flourish thanks to their energy. Others are broken by persecution and have to live on welfare. They place all their hope in the next generation. Esther and Yuval Rozenberg, Majer Szanckower and their friends meet today in the Shuka bar in the Bahnhofsviertel and celebrate life. Their motto is a Jewish proverb: "They wanted to kill us. We survived. Let us eat." That's what their parents passed it on to them. It's still relevant today.
