Layout Tour: Gary Reynolds' Grand Allegheny Railroad
Bill Schopf, Bob Yerkey and I took a road trip over to the western New York area to visit Gary Reynolds and his gorgeous Grand Allegheny Railroad. The GAR is a freelanced railroad set in central PA and western NY in the early 1950's. The railroad is a subsidiary of the Erie Railroad.
Some layout specifics:
-Space: 33ft x 11ft
-Control: Digitrax
-Min Radius: 28" on main, 24" industrial trackage
-Track: Code 83
Turnouts: #8 on main where curve is main route, #5 for yards/industry
Max Grade: 2%
Gary is an extremely talented craftsman, and many of his industries are craftsman kits, including several Fine Scale Miniatures. All his scenes are detailed and very realistic. He has also added numerous lighting effects to the buildings and scenery. The scenery is complete and very well done. Overall, the layout is a joy to behold and operate!
Gary does operate, and utilizes train sheets made up for each train. The main focus of the layout is operations, especially switching.
Sit back and enjoy the Grand Allegheny Railroad!

Great layout! Really liked the exposed helix, Also the night scenes really showcased the miniature vignetts.
An absolutely amazing layout. I love craftsman structures and there is a lot of eye candy on that layout. Well done. And thanks for sharing it. Wow!
That is a well thought out layout
A very well put together railroad. Must have been fun putting it all together.
Great video, Stephen, of an excellent model railroad. Gary’s work is outstanding. His viaduct is stunning. What Gary has done is inspiring.

Stephen very nice video of Gary's layout!
Awesome! I love the "exposed" helix!
Fantastic Details with amazing insights in Period Realisms. Entrancing layout. Inspired me with enhancements in my layout designs. Can still remember the Steam Whistles back in my single digits, didn't know then, they were the dying whistles of the Steam ERA . . . Thank You SIR, Enjoyed witnessing your Exceptional PROFICIENCIES, and am inspired to detail more with mine.
I love your videos!
the night scenes are wonderful, I think most people tend to have too much brightness in the night lighting effects and it seems too bright, this is dim more like you would see in real life, very well done

Amazing craftmanship indeed. I wonder how many years took him to build everything. Thanks for sharing, Rob. Next, is to watch your video. :) - Drew
Super.
00:31 Wish we had a roll-by of that entire Erie lineup!
13:27 , so they both run together ? Yeah ...... not , lol . Great pics , great story , well done .
Did the Erie have decapod with the high mounted headlight? I want one but I like my models prototypical and I've never seen a picture.
Awesome video of an awesome layout! I was wondering how you achieved the bluish nighttime hue lighting effect during the night time scenes?
Why are these trains running backwards????
👍
Nice layout , who plays the guitar music?
What gauge is this? Fantastic detail, well done… and great soundtrack. Who created the music?

Hello John this scale is H.O. Gauge.
Did I see the Grim Reaper just behind Santa Claus on the platform?
21:03 - that raised switch house needs a roofing contractor! Maybe there was a small tornado recently? 27:16 catches a guy peeing in the bushes. :|
You sound like reck it Ralph 🤗
It looks like you are having problems with your frogs.
He ran a train and did some switching?? Just what kind of videos are you making? Don't you know that juvenile minds could be watching? Oh wait...looks like they are!
