Laying Stone Setts - Full Video

Me and the lads here on this job we took over after the job was stoned up and path laid, we were then brought in to lay the setts after a few other unsuccessful attempts.
We laid them in 3 days, then came back to joint up. There will be/is separate video on this process (next week)
The stone we used was Londonstone Kandla Grey setts, and we laid on approx 50mm of semi dry mix 5-1 grit sand, with the addition of a bridge bond (primer) in the the little tub.
Hope you enjoy the video people.

Beautiful job lads. Used the flowpoint myself this week on a re grouting job on a 20 year old patio. Turned out well. Although couldn't get off the staining on some of the slabs. I think I should have wetted down the slabs before applying the last batch as it had probably dried up. Having watched your videos it gave me confidence to go at it myself. Thanks guys.

After laying the sets on the dry mix, do you go over it and water it, or leave it to the elements to harden off? Also, does the sets ever sink into the mix before it's had time to go hard, eg, by applying water (does it wash the mix away / flat)?

  • @Brockstonepavingpros

This is a great job like all the rest of your videos I’ve seen on here. I’ve got to do a 32m2 driveway with these sandstone flags. Would a 5:1 mix be strong enough for vehicles? I was going to put 150mm of type1 then put 60mm of 6:1 ballast/cement mix semi dry then top with 40mm sharp and cement semi dry so it sets together. I don’t know if that is just a waste of materials?. I haven’t done a driveway with these materials before and I don’t want any come backs. I didn’t know if you had any advice you could give on it?

Hi mate, I don’t know who sings the song but it’s called “night takes me in” This time of year we don’t add any water to the mix as the sands usually nicely damp. In the summer 💯 yes. iPhone 11 Pro mate 😂 I’m into photography so know a bit how to get a good shot. Thanks bro 👊

Your forte with slabs and pavers is a sight to behold, but I do have one small complaint which is spoiling my enjoyment, your sound levels, I have to turn the volume up high to listen to you talking, but when the music plays it is at a much higher volume, and I tend to watch your videos in the early hours of the morning (long story why) when the difference is probably more noticeable. I really enjoy your videos and watching you and your team work your magic chills me out

Be very careful in this weather. Ideally do 1m2 area, leave it a day or so, check you are happy with colour and finish. When ready to do it, have 3 men, do 1 bag at a time, will set very very fast in this weather.

We’ll you made a comment telling me what to do, when you don’t know what you’re talking about, I find that disrespectful to me. You didn’t ask why! you said please use a rubber mallet. These are tumbled setts, not sawn. They have a riven surface and fettled edges with various depths. You use a hammer because you can lay a block, then spin it around to the chisled side and chip/dress the sett and also use it as a levelling implement to losen or adjust the bed. Look at the craftsman behind Calçada Portuguesa and see what they use.
