Layering Trees To Create Depth In Your Landscape Painting
Working with a landscape of trees can be a little overwhelming. In this video I walk you through how to handle this difficult subject and end up with a painting that becomes a landscape painting you can enjoy painting.
In today's video I mention John Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting. It is invaluable and even though I've read through it several times over the years, I still refer to it. I highly recommend this book, here's the link: amzn.to/41yIB5b

This was so excellent. The demonstration of perspective, foreground, the talk of values, inconsistent shape reminder, all of it. I hope you do more like this! So helpful. Thank you

Glad you enjoyed it!
This is one of my favorite videos of yours so far. I’m always trying to get a muddy image to become organized. I’d love if you made a video that was a checklist: Foreground: darkest darks, most variety of small value shapes, highest saturation colors… Background, colors lack yellow and red, lowest contrast between darks/ lights… It’s just hard to remember all the general guidelines for for/mid/background. Thanks so much!!

Once again you’ve saved the day or rather the painting. I couldn’t work out what was wrong . . . . . . too few layers & all too close. Thank you Phil 🙏

I would love if you had a mini-course where we just simplified images using your method. I feel like getting 20-30 reps of doing this in an organized way would change my whole practice. Do you have such a thing? Also do I recall that you have an interactive feedback community on Facebook for supporters?
