Lawyer's $120k 41' Gooseneck Tiny Home in NEW Legal Tiny Community

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Meet Emily, a young lawyer who moved back to NC from NYC to embrace a more outdoor-focused lifestyle in a custom tiny home. Living tiny legally was a priority too. She's parked in a new, almost complete tiny house community called Cranmore Meadows. Mint Tiny Homes built her 41' gooseneck tiny house for about $120k (give or take with CAD to USD exchange rate).

I have always lived in 3 and 4 bedroom houses. My husband and I were supposed to go travel when I retired. He passed away in 2013 and I retired in 2016. Well I ended up losing my house. I could not rent anywhere due to I have 2 dogs and a cat and my mom who came and lived with me passed away in 2018. I was willed her little dog and cat. All the animals are in age range of 8 and 10 years old. So I bought myself a 39 foot 5th wheel for 4 slide outs and I absolutely love it. I haven’t learned to drive with a 5 th wheel yet but I do have a truck but not big enough tow it. Right now I have it stationary on my aunts property so it is working out for me and my crew. I don’t think I could ever live in a big house any longer. It takes me 15 to 30 minutes to clean daily. Everything has its place and I am so much more organized,

That's a lot to deal with, some stuff to go through. It sounds like you are a happy person. I hope I am right. I downsized from 2220 sq ft to 1116 sq ft in 2017. I wouldn't go back. My old, big dog and I were good in our small space. Now she is gone and I have a little, boy dog. We are happy to share our space.

They did not detail it, but the drawer dishwasher is made by Fisher and Paykel. The same company also makes drawers that can switch from being a freezer to a cooler - your option. Have seen a number of Tiny Homes with the washer drawer but none (yet) with the refrigerator/freezer drawer.

Emily is an excellent advertisement for a new generation of professionals. Instead of going for the bling bling large house as projected by Hollywood, she has opted for a small and comfortable tiny house. Her design choices and her clear love of nature shines through. I would like to see many more of these tiny homes on reclaimed urban space. There must be millions of sq metres of land that is waste, and it needs to be greened. It would be great to develop more and more communities that live tiny in large green spaces that have been resurrected from waste. I studied law, and I wished I stayed with it - if only to have a lovely dog and tiny house like Emily has. Well done Emily!

You don't need a law degree to have a tiny home. If you're really interested, start planning & go for it. You can always start with a more affordable build. This tiny home is one of the largest sizes made. I'm a retired nursing manager who has an absurd 1800 square foot home for myself & 2 dogs. We literally use significantly less than a third of this home. I'm hoping to make the leap to tiny home living next year & build a home & move from the NJ shore to the PNW. Tiny homes are energy efficient; especially with solar panels, on demand water heaters added, they're environmentally responsible, require much less cleaning & can be the perfect choice for any age group. I have a fixed income & with my current home just make ends meet. Despite having no mortgage, between the high taxes & outrageous utility bills for water & electric, HOA fees, I'm spending $1,200 /monthly. That's a lot of money for a bunch of empty useless space-and it's more than some mortgages! Although most tiny homes aren't meant to move constantly, having the choice & ability to move if necessary is fantastic.

I love the idea of a tiny house, because you can build what you want, but they've become so expensive and then there is Rent on top of it! Unless you own land you can legally live on Rent Free it feel MORE expensive to go tiny than a typical home. The Rent aspect is killing me. Her home after 10 years of Rent at $600/month is ~200k. For that much money you could own a Home AND Land that'll increase in value. After 10 years she'd still be paying rent. With few exceptions you can't buy land to legally live just in a tiny house. So it seems cheaper/better to buy a home, build a tiny, live in your tiny and rent / AirBnB the home.

Yes, none of this seems to make sense financially. Also, why build a tiny house in North Carolina? I am not familiar with the area she is in, but wouldn’t in make more sense to start out small on the property ladder, accrue equity and then move on? Tiny Houses do not appreciate in value. Spending so much money on the home, then $600 per months just makes no sense whatsoever.

  • @sira451

    @sira451

I think the lot rent which includes utilities, except electricity, is the average. Having said that, the expenses that come from owning a typical stick built home can get very high. You will be paying for all of your utilities, homeowners insurance, property taxes (which are extremely high in certain areas) and HOA fees (which can also get pretty high) plus you will need to do all the maintenance yourself or hire others to do it. When buying or building a house, you'll need to take into consideration all of these expenses because they are monthly expenses that aren't negotiable. Of course, unless you pay cash for your home, you'll have a mortgage payment too. There are so many benefits to being in a brand new small/tiny house and just lease the land. Financially, I can see how you'd think it doesn't make sense. I used to feel exactly the same way, but after owning several homes and looking at my annual expenses, it really is very expensive. Since the homes I've owned have all been new or newer, I wasn't saddled with many of the unexpected expenses that come along with buying an older home. These are all things to consider when looking into how you want to live and spend your money. And, there's the location. It's not possible to purchase a home in an area that you'd love to be near unless you have a lot of money. If you can find land or a tiny house community to live in that's near a city you love, it's definitely worth considering. I'm now retired, kids are grown and I'm looking for the right builder and permanent lot situation. It's something I've given a lot of thought and believe this is the best answer for me. Having said all that, I really do understand how you feel.

This is cute. I like it. It is far more better than to live in a shack. I live in South Africa and people here build ugly shacks with corrugated metal close to each other. And we see fires everyday. These shacks catch fire and the whole area get burned and left with nothing Sometimes people got killed by these fires. There's lot of land in South Africa, if people can learn to think out of the box like these ideas we see them in these channels, people's lives can be saved.

Great space and even greater dog! A possible remedy for your bowing table could be to invest in a rising-extending coffee table that can be set at sitting/eating from sofa/desk from sofa to regular table height and also folds out to accomodate 4-6 people. New ones range in price from £100-£800ish depending on where you buy from...i.e, Amazon, Dwell etc I recently bought a second-hand solid wood one in excellent condition on fb market place for £40 (originally £600) and it's been a god-send in my teeny house 😁

Beautiful tiny home. Not the type I'm looking for but beautiful designated spaces. The office is a great space, could double as a guest room if needed. The host is so open and personable. Loved that she gave extra information like what she did to it, what she would change.

Great design & use of space. Love the full size washer/dryer much better than the combo ones. The bathroom is luxurious- I can't go without a tub! The dedicated office/closet space is great. I don't need an office but would make this into a reading nook. Your gallery space is wonderful! I can't imagine not having a space for my artwork & photos. Overall you have a really beautiful tiny home in a gorgeous setting.

Really very beautiful tiny home with well-thought-out design in storage but your home has a feel of a much larger home. I really love the beautiful words you have throughout the home as well as all of your large windows. Such a gorgeous views! You have exquisite artwork.1 I must say❣️❣️ I especially loved the idea of having artwork made from a paragraph you took of a special place you travel to or seen or are you just loved. It turned out wonderfully!! There was a lot unique about your home that I don’t normally see and other tiny homes. I really like your overall design so much more than any other tiny home I seen. I do encourage you to get the U desire because it will overtime, create a lot of upper body pain for you that becomes a cute as you age and you don’t think about that now but I am older and things like that that I did when I was your age no bother me tremendously… And I could’ve prevented it instead of just “toughening it out”😊❣️❣️ Best of luck to you and thank you for sharing♥️🌈

This is a really cute house. From the color of the sofa, to the wood kitchen counter tops, the pivoting TV, farm sink, dish washer drawer, cool tub, storage stairs, windows, washable rug, closets, loft, office space...one can sleep in the living room, in the bedroom/loft, in the office...eventually in the outdoor deck area w/ bar-b-que, plants, furniture, maybe an outdoor enclosed shower? Plus, it can be moved anywhere or turned into an Air BNB ~nicely done.

One of the best tiny houses I have seen. I would have a sofa sleeper in place of the large sofa that she has, because they can be comfortable and used for any guest that didn’t want to climb the stairs because I would be sleeping in the back where her office is. I hate going up stairs and not having enough headspace. But this works for her lifestyle. Absolutely beautiful.

Just wanted to say thank you for a joy bomb of a tour with this lovely woman and her dog! Her upbeat personality is infectious! : - ) I crave a gooseneck for the tree-high views and added privacy, but I'd "settle" for a more knee-friendly single-level with that sassy orange couch, gorgeous wood countertop, separate washer & dryer, and drawer dish drawer! ; - ) Nice to see a tiny with all the amenities, plus some great perks (that bath! ; - ).
