I, too, like Mr. O'Donnell's show. BUT back in the day, the TV newsMEN usually did not express their own opinions (or, at least, they tried to veil their opinions because "journalists" were not supposed to reveal their political beliefs unless they were labeled "commentators." With the advent of more TV channels, and repeal of the old Fairness Doctrine laws (FCC regs), there has been a blurring of "news" and "opinion." And, I think it is confusing to most Americans. Case in point: "FOX News" does not even try to give objective accounts of daily US and world events--although they dress it up like they are presenting facts. O'Donnell is mostly a commentator--and a really good one because he backs it up with verifiable facts. But he has a whole different approach than CBS's Walter Cronkite. Cronkite was a true news "anchor." O'Donnell is not usually anchoring news. There were no satellite dishes for almost all years Cronkite anchoring the CBS evening news--so everything was delayed (e.g., "we'll have film at eleven"). Another difference: Cronkite was reaching 30 MILLION viewers per night on average. Due to the advent of cable, The Last Word averages a little over TWO (2) million viewers per night. I think O'Donnell has as good a delivery as Uncle Walter. One thing they seem to have in common: Their viewers TRUST them and believe what they are saying is true. And, that's huge. Maybe Lawrence will become "Uncle Lawrence"--a person US presidents believe they need on their side in order to wage wars or achieve peace. O'Donnell is just getting better and better. Wish more Americans and non-Americans would watch MSNBC. I primarily stream it. Really hope MSNBC tries to keep O'Donnell on in this role. Would really hate to see him go back to Hollywood as a screenwriter just now. (He can do that later if he wants... PLUS--truth is stranger than fiction.) Maximilien Robespierre Quotes. The secret of freedom lies in educating people, whereas the secret of tyranny is in keeping them ignorant. To punish the oppressors of humanity is clemency; to forgive them is cruelty. I don't think that what FOX "News" is doing is fully protected by the First Amendment (they are inciting violence and spreading lies (veiled dog whistles and hate speech--not protected by First Am.) Also, Fox is advertising their verifiable "lies" as true facts to the public. That, at least, is false advertising. Fox has already been successfully sued for defamation. Thank God Lou Dobbs & Tucker are off the air. FOX News and their paid shills are part of America's big corruption and Information Dissymmetry problem for sure. But what shall we do about it?? How do we fix this problem? If we don't fix it soon, we surely will not have a Democracy. Having an educated electorate is a prerequisite to a functioning democracy. Right? How can we protect 'free speech" but prevent the spreading of verifiable and destructive lies by major information-spreading media outlets and social media on personal devices? We need sustainable solutions to this info-dissymmetry problem--fast.

Thanks for pointing out that tariffs are a consumption tax that consumers end up paying, not importers. Many people don't grasp that. It is essential that businesses pass their costs on to consumers.

Yeah that's weird. I would say I'm above average in political and economic things but I always thought tariffs were import taxes paid by importing companies. So instead they are instead a means of driving the price up on foreign goods at no cost to the importer except in terms of expected lesser demands for their goods as consumers buy less expensive domestic goods of the same nature.

Consumers end up buying a more expensive domestic made product because our companies don't have to compete. I would like to buy a $10,000 Chinese electric car for $10,000 if they ever even let them be imported. I'm glad I was able to buy my 69 VW Beetle for much less than American cars sold for back then. Free trade was a good thing. It helped Germany and Japan recover from WWII and they are vital allies today.
