You made this comparison and offered a compelling argument for flail mowers in maintaining a field. Thanks! Great information! I wonder about time to complete the task as it compares to the zero turn that you mention having done the job with previously.

When it comes to bearings, brand doesn't usually mean much as far as finding parts. Most cheap bearings, even from China use the same numbering system as the NTN stuff etc. making replacement bearings fairly simple.

I know you say you don't "need" one but, when I bought a larger tractor about 2 1/2 years ago, I needed to upsize my mower to match. I could have purchased a 6ft rotary cutter and it would have worked just fine. But I'm glad I went with the flail. Reduced backswing, reduced vibration, offset cutting for road shoulder maintenance, better maneuverability in tight quarters, easier trailer transport of tractor and cutter, finer mutching, and easier storage have been well worth the extra cost. I cut everything from grass to woody scrub brush, to old stumps and blow downs that can't be salvaged for firewood, even small trees(about 2" diameter). If you can't tell, I'm a HUGE fan!👍🏻🤠👍🏻

Our road mowers that I use at work use mowers made by US Mower, located here in WA State. We have 3 rotary mowers attached to side booms that allow us to really reach out and mow ditches and back slopes as well as trim branches back. Our 2 shoulder mowers both use flail mowers with the Y blades. They do pretty decent, though it takes getting used to having them mounted on the side rather than the rear like the one in your video. I'm usually in a boom mower and those rotary cutters will cut through anything, though blackberries and some thicker wet land grasses give them issues. They have no issue chewing through cable peds though.

I bought a Kubota 3901 to replace my Chinese NON-Deere Piece of Sh*t. I used a finish mower to cut 5 acres of grass like you are cutting in this video. Well it finally gave out and bent the deck so instead of a total rebuild, I looked up the flail mowers and I was on board. It is actually the same cost if not cheaper in some aspects than purchasing a new finish mower. I hated the windrows of grass the finish mower left behind and the constant sharpening of the blades. I went all out and bought the Titan 165FLAILDB. It comes with the hammer style blades with an option to buy the "Y" blades. The 165 is capable of a slide shift offset AND a 90 degree vertical lift as well a 35 degree down to cut ditches. I LOVE it! It is so versatile and does an AMAZING job cutting that field I mentioned. No more windrows of grass but a highly mulched by product from the mower. It takes some time to get the adjustments right so you don't scalp the ground as much but all in all, I love it. With the slide shift offset and the size of this mower I would marry it up to a Grand L 4060 but my 3901 handles it well.

@bowhunter 85 Your assumption is actually Wrong. The structural integrity was subpar in my opinion. Before it fell apart. It worked great. I loved the sound of the Humm it makes when it reaches full speed!! In my opinion it was cheap import metals and assembly shortcuts. No Loc Tite on any of the bolts either, allowed all of the bolts to loosen and many too fall out. Definitely going to purchase a bottle of LocTite just for this implement. The sales label that was zip tied to the shaft lasted longer than Large sections of the paint. The finish was flaking off in 6”x 6” sheets. Planning on uploading a video at some point in time. After that I will rebuild the unit, reinforcing it where needed. Especially the roller that keeps it from scalping. I can lift it with one hand. So I definitely won’t be purchasing the cheap replacement that they offer. (So obviously others have had issues with this inferior component if they are readily making “replacements” available). I plan on cutting it open just to see how thin of a gage metal is supporting the weight of the mower itself and the loader arms in float mode. It was beat up pretty bad especially once the duck heads hit it when the bolts worked their way out. So there is no way to salvage it. As to Flail Mowers, I love em! They do a great job. The “Fail” comes from the manufacturer standpoint, who I will no longer purchase their import implements from. Also keep in mind that there are two companies that call themselves “Titan”. Don’t get the two confused.
