Hello friends! It's back to school season and I wanted to kick off the law school content with part 1 of my 1L survival guide! In this video, I get very chatty and share the dos and don'ts of the first year of law school. These are just a few things that I wish I would've known going into law school. ❀ Q&A/additional dos and don'ts I thought of whilst editing this video lol:
- Cold calling: Don't sweat it! Public speaking doesn't come naturally to everyone and practice makes perfect. Don't be ashamed to ask clarifying questions or extra time to think through your response. If you mess up a cold call (and I've done it MANY times lol) let it roll off your back-no one will remember it by the end of the week. Try to view cold calling as a way to improve your self confidence and public speaking skills.
- Legal creators: I find it really helpful to follow legal field influencers and professionals on YT, Instagram, and LinkedIn. It can give you insight into different career paths, study methods, etc. I follow a ton of legal creators on LinkedIn (mine is just under Kaitlyn Willis, feel free to connect with me) and on TikTok!
- Legal writing and research classes: Take advantage of these classes! Most, if not all, 1Ls have to take legal research and writing along with their other required classes. It may seem more important to focus on torts, contracts, civ pro, etc. but what you get out of legal research and writing will lay the foundation for the rest of your studies and career.
