Memo to law students: if you go to trial as an attorney, never, EVER accuse a witness of lying. You can take apart the testimony. You can point out inconsistencies. You can even tell the jury (in closing, not in examination) that the witness is unreliable or flawed. But beginning your examination with "you're lying, this is a publicity stunt" will instantly tell the judge that you are an unethical, terrible lawyer who thinks TV courtroom drama is realistic, and you will give your opponent a huge opening to throw out your entire line of questioning or the entire trial itself. The reason is, if an attorney knowingly brings a witness who presents false testimony (i.e. perjury), that can get the attorney in serious trouble with the bar. So accusing a witness of lying in trial is so serious, it is generally considered unacceptable. It's also incredibly weak lawyering, because the witness won't be very cooperative. It makes for juicy ratings bait, but it's one of those things that doesn't happen in most courtrooms.

What makes this disturbing to me is that in Illinois in the mid 90’s, this wouldn’t be considered rape. I was on a jury and we had to find a rapist not guilty because consenting to one penetrative sexual act was construed as consent to any such act. The defense attorney made the same claims about the accusation being a ploy, but at least as recessive as most of the jury was, another juror and I with knowledge of the general nature of the victims work situation managed to dissuade the rest of the jury on the defense’s theory

@@leehaelters6182 in order to qualify as a call girl or escort, your prices are usually higher and your clients are of a higher status like CEO or Governor. Prostitutes have clients that are middle to lower class. They work on the streets whereas escorts work at high end places.
