I look forward to an editing together of trained geologists’ cameo commentaries from various films - with amended subtitling because the cc here produce gobbledegook - they do not recognise technical terms nor do they adjust to an Icelandic speaker’s speech habits affecting their otherwise excellent English🤩😍💐 Thank you for all your effort. I loved especially 5-6 mins and 15mins to the end. Thank your Dad too!

That was one of the most informative videos I have seen on the eruption. Nice to have a geologist for the occasion. Loved the geology background with the information on the plates, the "big picture" that provides context and perspective. It makes what we are seeing more meaningful and intelligible. Thanks! :-)

Thanks to your dad, I will never be able to look at my toenails without my brain connecting that to the rate of continental drift. On the other hand, checking the width of that crack between the plates right at the beginning (and trying to measure it in toenails, obviously) makes me feel very young. I love your videos and your dad is awesome. He makes for a great teacher. I hope you`ll do more videos like this one.

My dad is interested in doing something like this. However from June I will be going to Dubai for a year so we won't make those videos until next year!

If not, it is completely understandable since you will be leaving Iceland in a couple of weeks. Sure that an amazing opportunity is awaiting you in Dubai for the next year. Hopefully you will be able to post some beautiful video from there once in awhile. Your vacation videos are what drew me in to your channel. Having minored in Earth Sciences more than 2 decades ago, I am grateful to see a real geologist explain such a wonderful and natural event that has been happening for eons on our planet. Geology field trips were some of the best parts of my university days. Well done Dr. Íngólfsson, and great video work Jon.

Yes please. More dad the geologist. Would be awesome if he could explain the separation of the gasses from the molten rock within the earth to form those massive jets exiting the volcano. Also what roll the cooled lava plays to form a more or less insulating layer over the hot rocks and lava within the lava field after it has flowed across the landscape. Totally fascinating talk from Dad the geologist. Moar, moar.

Good to hear a geologist in person provide eloquent commentary and explanations. Thankyou. (A personal preference would be lose the music while he talks - some of the revelations for me about this eruption have been in hearing the constant natural environmental noise of the lava flows and violent eruptions. But I still very much appreciate this video. Thanks again)

My late grandfather Dr. Paul Dean Proctor was a geologist who would have loved to see this volcano. I get to see it in a few weeks and your geologist dad gave a phenomenal explanation that made me miss my grandpa. His english is excellent and his explanations were excellent. I especially loved the analogy of the lava being like a giant caterpillar! haha!

Your dad is a fantastic instructor and your creative camera, editing and production is just as good. Thanks to you both. Next time you go up there might I suggest bringing helmets (like bike helmets) with you to protect your heads! Enjoyed immensely watching and learning the geology of the volcano and surrounds.

As a Geologist the presentation is beautifully presented by both Father and Son. The technical explanation is smoothly delivered by the Professor Ingolfsson and these have been extremely well integrated with the visual by Jon. The eruption is a relatively unique opportunity to see a lava eruption in a natural amphitheater where every seat is the best in the house. Very well done and the records of this eruption will be studied for many years

Finally! Information from an expert! Most of the videos, while visually great, have no info except obvious observation. Anyone else on site who talks about the geology & the actual mechanics of the lava progression? Is the “wall” being built expected to actually divert the lava? To where? Thanks.

Thanks for your positive feedback. The wall is constructed to keep the lava confined within the valleys surrounding the volcano, instead of having it taking the path of least resistance down towards the coast where it threatens infrastructure (roads, cables). Hopefully this can be done. In case the eruption lasts for months or the lava production increases this might turn out to be futile. Lava flows cannot be stopped, only diverted, and there are limits to what we can do. But, it is worth the try.

Your images are fantastic, as always, but the addition of your father's engaging explanations just makes it So. Much. Better. Thanks to you both!

From the introduction I was thinking, Wow, might finally learn something. But then I saw how much emphasis he put on his filming equipment and thought, ah-oh, a boy and his toys trying to sound informative. By the end of it I have to admit, I was half wrong. It was about a boy and his toys, along with his father who knew a thing or two.

Thanks for your positive feedback. Mostly, the shards cooled and solidified in the air, but the most violent explosions caused still molten lava to the be thrown our way. This ignited the mosses (and we decided to retreat to a safer location)...

Wow that was the best video I've seen so far that describes exactly what is happening in iceland with the volcano. Your Dad did an awesome job of explaining it in a way that made it easy to understand. It is also the first time I have seen the rocks falling on people 20 seconds after the eruption. That kind of made me feel that people are getting way too close to a volcano that was dormant for thousands of years & no one really knows what it is going to do. Brilliant video Jon Bear.

Jon's dad estimated that this volcano, at the time of this video, has put out 20 million cubic meters of lava. 2018 Kilauea lower east rift zone eruption which last 4 months had put out an estimated 1 billion cubic meters. The largest eruption to take place from Kilauea in the last 200 years.

I have come to think of this vent as being a grumpy old man , he was really grumpy to you guys . But he tossed a friendship rock at your girlfriend , here in the States that's what some of us call rocks with a hole in them , you put a string through the hole and give it to your best friend to wear around their neck . I love rocks . My grandma called me her rockhound . I don't know anything about them I just know when they make my heart and eyes feel good . Mr Ingolfsson thank you for sharing your knowledge with us . If you do this again could you talk about some the beautiful things that volcanoes can create . This isn't good content, it's absolutely fantastic! One of the best videos of the eruption I've seen. And much thanks to your father, it was fascinating listening to him explain what's happening.

I've been following the eruption since early March. Many thanks to Ólafur Íngólfsson for his explanations. Loved the shots of the rocks raining down after the lava fountains ended. First time I've seen that. First rate video and audio too. This is the fastest geology I have ever seen. Hope the weather clears and you all go back to the eruption soon.

We have closely watched on KZread, this volcano system since 21 March 21 from the USA 🇺🇸 No one has explained as the professor did here. This is the 1st time ANYONE explained so thoroughly, the relationship between the Intercontinentali Rift and Volcanism in Iceland 🇮🇸 Professor Ingolfsson is a BRILLIANT EDUCATOR. I fully plan to recommended this channel & this video to others on the Livestream channels’ where viewers, thousands of them come to learn about this Reykjanes peninsula system online.
