Not too many lyricist out there and if they are lyricist, they are being over shadowed by these candy rappers. What happened to telling a story? All you hear about now is sex, how much money they got, and how many chicks or men they pull. When you've heard one, you've heard all.

I still don't think no one was ever able to do that that made it big. Drakes the closest but he's average for both rapping and singing. I personality don't think Nicki can sing but everyone has their opinions I guess

I (Asian guy) was obsessed with Lauren Hill -- she was ground-breaking back then -- and never having gotten the sophomore album after waiting for years, I've forgotten about her since as life goes on. Anyways, I feel vindicated for my obsession with her retro doo wop r&b, infused with contemporary hip hop -- with Apple Music ranking this the GOAT album. It REALLY is an all-time great album. Time to order another CD cause I lost the first one.

She can sing like an angel and suddenly use her hoarse voice with that nasty accent: she gives me goosebumps. She's also beautiful but she never used her beauty to hide some default.

Her rapping flow, lyrical prowess gets mentioned a lot but her incredible singing is overlooked too often I think. She is flawless in her execution, roaming all over the stage pitch perfect and her tone, her unique sound is just so fucking stunning!

Underrated in what sense? She was the youngest, first female and BLACK female at that, to win the most grammy’s in one night. She flipped and exposed the industry because they couldn’t keep up with her perspectives. Current or not, she’s still at the top of the list for many.. people will never forget a true artist. She knows she doesn’t have to be currently current but her messages will always find their way

This song taught me self-respect, self-love, worth and value at 5 years old and it hasn’t left. I’m 25 now and when I have a daughter I plan to introduce her to Lauryn’s music in the womb. I love this woman. I want to thank her in person one day. She also was so very unapologetic in her melanin which really spoke to me without me knowing. 🥰

I think people interpret differently but a hard rock is tough, rough, perhaps even ugly (both inside and out) due to the environment it is subjected to. But a gem is often concealed beneath, and can be so much more. A diamond, for example: beautiful, brilliant, precious, and the hardest naturally occurring substance on earth. Be tough AND precious, recognize and own your incredible (self) worth! That's how I take it :)
