Cats pretty consistently land on their feet if they fall from high enough up (anything over about two stories will do), but this is because they can turn themselves over on the way down. Yes, really: there's even video footage of them doing it. The back end flips rightside-up first, and the front end follows, IIRC. Squirrels can do the same thing. This hasn't stopped people from speculating about strapping grape jelly bread to a cat's back and dropping it over white carpet to achieve scientific breakthroughs of one kind or another (perpetual motion, levitation, violation of causality, multiple mutually-inconsistent outcomes, ...), but in practice Murphy's Law isn't that strong: the cat would still land on its feet (although there's no guarantee it wouldn't also pee on the carpet). Murphy's Law only applies when nothing is actively preventing the negative outcome from happening.

Ironically it is safer for cats to fall from a higher point than a lower point though to a limit but even at terminal velocity for a cat they can and do survive

Remember we had no sensors or electronics back thru history...so an animal let out will run to people so you don't go into the fight...sadly it was the first attempt at droning eachother

Speaking of tankers in Russia, i feel like you would really enjoy the story of the WW2 tank "Fighting Girlfriend", a story about one of the most famous and inspiring women in all of Russia! Count Dankula has a video on her called 'Mad Lads: Mariya Oktyabrskaya'.

Definitely check out the bat bomb, grand theft Uboat, old 666 the b17 crew, the real tank genius of WW2, 43 mailmen fight the Germans, wrecking and trolling the Germans with a wooden plane. Those are some good ones.

The cats suffocated so they didn’t die in the air so if they were dropped over the ocean then they died at the bottom of said ocean at least they had a bunch of glowy sea goblins keeping them company for their final moments

Realistically, no. They would have been turned to paste from the sudden deceleration while being stuck inside a metal tube. Would have been instant and messy before the remains of the bomb sunk to the ocean floor

Britain had some weird ideas during wars that it just never worked out. during WW1 to find U-boats Admiral Inglefield decided to train seagulls to attack periscopes in the water by feeding them through fake periscopes so they would assume, food, when they saw one at sea, but they weren't interested, ignored the fake periscopes and looked for fish in the sea. he then decided they should train seagulls to defecate on periscopes so that it would blind the U-boat, he never figured out how he would train them to do that. another idea was to train sealions to hunt for U-boats and then alert the British navy of where it was, they trained some sealions but since they never used the idea its assumed training didn't go well. but, determined not to give up he devised a fourth plan, he would send out patrol boats with several men on them, when they found a periscope they would sneak up and one sailor would put a bag over it while another used a hammer to break it, the plan was never actually used.

And even worse, betrayal and waste of money is when military equipment is left behind in foreign countries rather than brought home. any animal that has been trained and used in military conflit is also left behind. so dogs that were trained for years with their Military trainers and the handlers are left behind with all the other military equipment. It's happened for a long time

And when it is 'brought home' the animals are generally euthanized and the equipment is dumped into the sea on the way home. Gotta justify that bloated budget for next year.

Why animals: 1. Largely predictable behavior (especially when stressed) 2. Not human 3. Abundant. Not saying it's right, but sometimes it's really that simple.

"How could they do that to the goodest boys?" They're Communists. Soviet Communists. I don't think you comprehend how horrible these people were. Human rights ment nothing to them. The Red Army advanced through Germany like the Mongal hord. German units were fighting desperate reargard actions against the Soviets, not to defend Germany, but so they could evacuate CIVILIANS into US held territory to save them from the Russians. The Red Army's treatment of Germans was absolutely barbaric.

The “ Cats land on their feet” thing is really it depends how high the cat falls from. The higher the height the more of a chance they have to twist their bodies to land on their feet.

1:54 That is actually very questionable, effectiveness of that "flaming pig" thing is questionable, and its "standard" is definetly wrong. Flaming pigs is something romans did on some occasions, standard way was to simply deploy light infantry armed with javelins to kill the beasts. 2:23 that is most likely a myth. Why animals? They're cheaper than humans, can be raised faster and replaced more easily than soldiers. That said, you are already designing a way to kill people. Your goal is to kill people, so killing people and one animal on top of that isnt really that much of a reach.
