“You couldn’t fathom the amount of dead men behind me,” goes unreasonably hard. It’s up there with the “Wait for Goku” line for me. Cell’s trash talk is stellar in this series for real! I also use the “It doesn’t bother me, it BOTHERS ME A LOT!” line a lot in real life too lol. Also a neat little detail from the creator commentaries is that Vegeta actually shows a level of deference to Bulma’s mother that he doesn’t with most anyone else by actually calling her what she wants to be called.

Lanipator (the voice of Vegeta, Krillin, Piccolo, Mr. Popo, 3rd season Master Roshi...god, he voices so many characters in this show) has said that "You couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me" is one of his favorite lines in the entire show, ranking up there with Freeza's "Give me some ideas" and Piccolo's "It means 'God.' Now bow."

The reason Cell killed Trunks in the future was because Trunks had destroyed 17 and 18 in that timeline so needed to steal the Time Machine to go to a time where 17 and 18 were still alive. I believe in the original show Cell says the coordinates were pre programmed in the Time Machine and he simply pushed the button.

Also a great callback to the (sadly discontinued) series Mobile Suit Gundam Abridged, which TFS did support to at least wrap up under an emotional endpoint.

I just love how deep Cell psychology cuts all of his opponents. It still gives me chills of ‘You can’t fathom the amount of dead men behind me.’ Another thing is that Goku is a fighting savant. He may be quite simple, but he’s shown to be a surprisingly great tactician

he just seems like an idiot because he doesn't think like a human. warm feelings are nice, rather that the primary motivating factor. he doesn't seek comfort and ease and work to make it happen, he seeks strength for the joy of excellence that comes with competency.

Dragonball is a crazy series with a comedic base, Goku indeed sent a rabbit and his criminal underlings to the moon.

Fun fact, the "Trunks powering up" scene in 53 is where a rather infamously uninformed trope about the series originated. In the original show, the episode was spent not just telling Cell's origin and how he got the time machine, but also Trunks' as well, because the History of Trunks special had not been made yet. The episode ended up being a lot of flashbacks with the only other thing being Trunks powering up for what amounted to the entire episode, the fight not starting until the next one. This episode became a whipping boy for people who had never actually watched the show spreading a false accusation that every powering up scene in the series took entire episodes at a time, and a lot of people for some reason still believe it even to this day.

Let it sink in that a HUMAN made this creature. Of all the things Gero has made, THIS is his greatest creation by design. A people drinking monster that was lab grown by a man who went insane and lost what loved most in the world. What’s more mind-boggling is just how strong Cell is from birth. The androids? Technology, sure, but Cell? All-natural. Cells and DNA from all the fighters like Frieza, the Saiyans, Piccolo, ect. Practically immortal, ageless, born to achieve one thing alone: Assimilating two teenagers into a giant bug man body. Eyup.

In OG Dragon Ball, Goku was trained by Mr. Popo. Alone. Also Episode 54 is the perfect stopping point to watch the movies.

"Oh thank god, I mean, Oh my god"! Funny moment followed by one of (if not THE) darkest moment of the show.

He has telekinetic powers from frieza cells.

The whole "Leaving the planet forever" bit is only of my favorites of the whole series. It cracks me up every time

I love the borderline panic in Gohan’s delivery of “I think we’ve been in here too long”

Aw HELL yeah! I've been waiting for these two episodes, several of my favorite lines are in them! Also, as an avid collector of non-standard hats, that is a fantastic hat. I approve. No worries, Broly is an interesting name to say the least. Gotta say it like "BRO-lee" but honestly your pronunciation could've been worse. When I was a kid, my friends kept saying "Broily," inserting the I like he was an oven setting. X3 It wasn't so much a mini-fight as it was an ambush. Cell was able to catch Trunks by surprise in that timeline; if it had actually been a level playing field, Trunks would have won, hands-down. Oh, not just emotionally manipulative. This is one of the things I love most about how TFS portrays Perfect Cell: he doesn't just win these early fights, he surgically pulls the fight out of his opponents. He psychologically thrashes Vegeta and Trunks in ways he *knows* will cut deep for them. It's cold, calculated malice that Taka plays brilliantly. Another awesome detail: Goku is a savant when it comes to fighting. This is the first time they make it obvious, and I love seeing how people react to it. Great reaction as always! Looking forward to the deluge of innuendos next time! :3

So, Goku talking with Gohan about the form Trunks was using had 2 purposes: 1. It shows just how much of a fighting savant 2. It highlights the difference between Vegeta and Goku as far as training their sons. Goku showed Gohan this more powerful form, but explains the limitations, whereas Vegeta clearly didn't.

Goku was still fairly young when he trained with Popo (it happened before DBZ, which is why we never really see it in Abridged). And considering what Goku saw Mr. Popo do to a Kamehameha, I'd say that probably helped with the trauma. Not that canon Mr. Popo is anything like his Abridged counterpart. But nevertheless, I could see that specific moment attributing to Goku being just as traumatized as everybody else, if Abridged had covered that content more directly.

As a suggestion, if you do the team 4 star attack on Titan abridged, it's only one episode. You could put a poll up and it can give the community 2 weeks to vote.

Weird that Gohan dreamed of Perfect Cell when he hasn't ever seen him... come to think of it, I don't think he saw any of Cell's forms prior to that dream.

Perfect cell is a perfectionist, the ring wasn’t perfect.

Goku did, in fact, send a rabbit to the moon, fairly early on in the original Dragon Ball series. The rabbit was humanoid, and was known as Monster Carrot. He had the power to transform anyone he touched into a carrot. So, to beat him, Goku used the Power Pole (a red staff that can grow or shrink in length, the one he used in Dead Zone) to wallop him. He then used the pole to take a tied up Monster Carrot and his two minions into space and to the moon (don't ask how they could breathe, it was OG Dragon Ball) where they were told they could return once they made a *lot* of mochi.

I like that when the tiles are flying you can even see the one they colored green for the joke in the few frames its on screen.

Cell kinda changes it's personality when he absorbs the androids, maybe just maybe, he wants to be friends with 16 because bith 17 and 18 liked him

I love that Chiaotzu is absolutely done at this point. I think this is his last TFS appearance.

It showed up twice before in another episode, but that "country music" is another version of "Cat Loves Food". Yamcha and his song "Cat Loves Food" are a reference to a part of the Funimation dub in which Yamcha sings that to Puar who is sipping a drink through a straw. When asked what that was, he replies that it's from an old cat food commercial. Thus TFS switched it around such that Yamcha would actually record a popular version of the song himself and get sick of it.

The Rabbit to the moon is actually true, when he was a kid, Goku had a power pole that extends, he grabbed the Rabbit villain, extended his power pole all the way to the moon and left him there 😂

"Magical girl transformations are usually longer" no, no they aren't, DBZ transformations on average take 50% of the episode, magical girl transformations only take 1 to 2 minutes every episode they just seem longer because It's EVERY episode.

Especially when it's multiple transformations in a single episode. I haven't watched much magical girl anime (watched a fair bit of Sailor Moon when I was younger, but that's it), but I did watch Zenki all the way through. And in that show, especially by the second half, it became really tedious having to watch essentially a sequence of three or four transformations back-to-back in every single episode, before every single fight. Without any deviation from the animation sequences whatsoever.

Personally I'm glad the normal subs are back! My other comment blew up, I have nothing against the Canadian subs I just think they are best saved for rewatches! Never meant to come across as demanding or harsh. Still enjoying the reactions! It didn't keep me from watching the previous video either.

It occurs to me, in gohan's dream. How did he know what perfect cell looked like?

Goku is a genius fighter, but that's his area of expertise. As far as that subject is concerned, he's a brilliant scientist!

Just to make all the timeline stuff super clear because they don’t fully explain it: Timeline A: Perfect Cells timeline. Goku died from the heart virus, etc, Trunks A saves Timeline B from the Androids, comes back home and gets killed by our Cell. Timeline B: We never see this timeline, but presumably it’s a lot like the main timeline except Cell never shows up and no one goes looking for Gero’s sub lab. Trunks A helps everyone beat the Androids before going back to be killed by Cell. Timeline C: Our Future Trunks’ timeline. This one is the biggest mind boggler to think about because it wasn’t made by 1 person going back in time, but by a second person going back to change the things the 1st person changed. If you think about it too hard you get to weird questions like “was the Trunks that killed Frieza in Timeline D Trunks A or Trunks C, because Cell hadn’t actively interfered with the timeline yet” Timeline D: Where the main story actually takes place

When Goku first met Mr. Popo, they fought, and during the fight, Popo literally ate Goku's Kamehameha. This is a technique Goku never mastered, and Popo refused to teach it to him. This traumatized Goku, both because there's a technique he can't learn and because he desperately wants to know what a Kamehameha tastes like.

You ought to look into Cell's announcement in the manga. It's SUPREMELY chilling, he basically calls out that there's nowhere to hide, because not only can he sense life energy, but he will come and find every single person on the planet and methodically kill them one by one. It won't be haphazard field wiping energy blasts like before, but every single person on the planet as if he was a juiced up Jason/Michael Myers. If you want a breakdown of the manga saga's I recommend TotallyNotMark's videos going over it, it's very entertaining and very educational.

I love the music that they used for the Trunks versus Cell fight. It's a custom made remix of Trunk's theme from the PS1 games.

Episode 53 is full of so many cold lines. Has so many of my favourite lines in it.

You can spot the green tile mid flight if you pay close attention or slow the video down. Kaiser, or whoever edited that part, didn't need to do that, but going thst extra mile made it so much fun to spot it. Unnecessary, but appreciated. Cell leveling that spot, hitting the *one* house in the area really feels like he went out of his way to be a dick. A real "hmm? A human house, huh... Eh, just because I *can,* and because I need to put my arena *somewhere,* f✓©k *you* in particular, random person." As someone who loves a good FYIP, I appreciate him being that petty. Note how Vegeta treats Bulma's mom. Everyone else, he uses a nickname to address or refer to them, usually based on their appearance, because he doesn't respect them. However, with Bulma's mom (Panchy), he refers to as the nickname *she* requests others call her, and when she says she has a new nickname to be called by, he doesn't get all that annoyed. He's more confused, but it seems like he intends to honor her request. She *is* the grandmother of his son, and clearly that causes Vegeta to show her some respect. Only two others are given such respect, and even then he doesn't always do it until they've done something to earn it. Those two are Trunks (Vegeta occasionally uses it instead of just calling him "boy") and Goku (and even then, he calls him Kakarot due to his pride as a Saiyan). Trunks, he calls by name occasionally, due to his son occasionally pushing back against him, and for finally becoming strong and worthy of his royal blood. Goku, he calls Kakarot due to him actually being strong, despite being born weaker than Raditz. Him becoming a Super Saiyan before Vegeta may also have something to do with it. Fun fact: During a stream of TFS playing a version of Cards Against Humanity, Lanipator, voice of Vegeta, read a card *as* Vegeta, as the card pack included TFS references. At one point, a card had "Goku" written on it, and Lani noted that saying "Goku" in Vegeta's voice felt wrong, so he reread it using "Kakarot" instead. I'm inclined to agree with Lani. Vegeta saying "Goku" just doesn't sound quite right, no matter the voice actor.

Nice to see SSJ Stage 3 get some attention in Abridged.

I had forgotten about the "cell vs" videos, those were fun, but I don't know how many fighting anime you've watched, it's not as fun if you don't know the characters that appear

mmmm to a point yeah. I knew barely anything about fist of the north star or one punch man when they first came out and I still enjoyed them. But yeah your entertainment is way upgraded if you know them.

Since you bring it up: With each android Abridged!Cell absorbs, the more positive his attitudes toward 16 are. That's their personalities rubbing off on him.

Definitely something wrong with all the Saiyan's therapy is too late for goku and vegeta but, there may still be time for Gohan and Trunks 😂

since tfs' outro brought up something witty, I will say I highly recommend Sword art online abridged if you need a new abridged series to watch after dbz. it is fantastic.

Goku is a savant when it comes to fighting and training but very simple when it comes to most everything else.

Actually in dragon ball z (and mostly just z) their transformations/powering up does take longer than your average magical girl transformation because they have to pad for time so in some cases you'll have 5 minutes of them screaming and then they'll intercut some other fluff (technically making the thing take longer) However the magical girl genre has the advantage of being able to reuse the transformations and do a Short version if needed, because their issue is budgetary (generally speaking) not that the 5 minutes of screaming and panning shots isn't massively budget friendly but reusing animation costs you $0 even if you make a short version of it because it's so little work you're not really adding workload to the editing team and is visually more engaging
