Because that's all we truly want out of life. But our society has put these standards on having partners with the best looks, jobs, traveling adventures, who seems to have have have. What's really important is someone loving you unconditionally for who you are and even the most mundane things are wonderful with the right person. But we've been conditioned to believe that love must be earned, that you alone aren't worthy unless you prove yourself. That's why that line hits so hard. It cuts through the bullshit to what truly actually matters.

Rich CEO Waymond being jealous of Laundromat Waymond is just a nut kick into the feels.
@phantomninja01

It's an important details that the two "coolest" versions of Waymond, the badass one and CEO Waymond are both depicted as being quite sad. One lost his wife and is killed by his daughter, and the other never got over the love of his life leaving him despite being successful. It's the Waymond that runs a struggling laundromat and is filing for divorce that ultimately has the happy ending.

@nickcys5395

@@Neojhun There's an additional layer of meaning in that line if you understand Mandarin. The subtitles said, "In another life, I would have really liked..." but what Waymond actually said was, "If reincarnation turns out to be real, I'd want my next life to be laundry and taxes with you." He's not just looking back at what could've been, but also saying that, given the chance, he would choose that life.

This scene is everything! In case my fellow laundry+tax lovers didn't know: 1. the cinema photography is a nod to the HK movies (In the Mood for Love, 2046) of Wong Kar Wai and Christopher Doyle. 2. What he said in Mandarin: 如果有来生,我还是会选择和你一起,报税,开洗衣店 Exact translation: If there were a next life (reincarnation), I still would choose to be with you, file taxes, open a laundromat 3. I'm 99% sure that it was Ke Huy Quan's wife was the translator

Alpha Waymond, who seemed more 'macho', was constantly pushing Evelyn around, leaving Evelyn and doubting her, while *her* Waymond was fighting for her, fighting for their marriage and supporting her 100%. We as women are starting to learn that the bad boys we fall for, often tirnes turn into 'bad men'. Men like Waymond, who fight with kindness, treat us the way we hope for. 💕

This line hits so hard because of the structure of the story. "Laundry and taxes" is setup and demonstrated from the beginning of the film to represent the mundane meaningless drudgery of our lives. Remember drunk Evelyn cynically complaining about laundry and taxes right before she signs the divorce papers? Remember "I always hated this place."? Then Waymond flips the idea on its head by using "laundry and taxes" to represent something completely different - the basis of a happy life if you're with someone you love.

And tens of millions of women, including me, had an epiphany. Alpha Waymond, who seemed more 'macho', was constantly pushing Evelyn around, leaving Evelyn and doubting her, while *her* Waymond was fighting for her, fighting for their marriage and supporting her 100%. Unfortunately we both had some unresolved issues that caused our split. And even now when I watch this line I completely lose it 😢
Okay it's nice to know I wasn't the only one bawling like crazy on this scene lol. Me and my husband had been a bit rocky since the pandemic and we are just really getting better this year and so this kind of hit me hard, I would do all of this difficult crap with him than with anyone else, honestly.
I feel like everyone kind of understands the feeling of being willing to trade everything for the love you always wanted
The older you are, the more you can relate. The more you _are_ those two characters.
Waymond showing the love language that is often always overlooked and neglected just because it's not "showy" and "explicit" -- acts of service. He had been doing the little things that are making Evelyn's life much easier but she is overlooking it.
I immediately thought this is the purest and most romantic line to ever be said in a movie (or real life for that matter) but didn’t realize how many other people thought so too! It really does shed a light on the most important aspect of having a partner at all, which is being there with you even in the most mundane chores ever.
I love the idea that the "ideal" universe where they have fame and success and he dreams of living the worst universe's life because they could be together. One of the many things this movie is remarkable for is that it doesn't refute anything. Yes you can be living the worst outcome where things are tough and it can still be celebrated for the wonderful parts. I’d also love to see links! This is a great compilation but it’d be hard to figure out where a lot of these come from on my own

I was sobbing like a little kid while watching this. Specially because I was getting through a divorce.
3:02 "That's all he wanted.." That's all we want.
3:36 lowkey me in the theatre i had to bite my fist to shut up
Greg was a mess that entire video lol my fav reaction
Thank you for this! Requesting the rock scene and the final parking lot scene please! 🙏🏻
The more accurate translation to what he says would be " If there's another life... ", I think this adds a slight more sadness to it because we never know if there's another life at all. :(
3:33 got me crying again ya’ll. And here I thought I was already immune to that line’s reactions. Nope, not all that immune still 😅.
if u want ur viewers to cry, give them an emotional reason to do so if u want them to laugh give them a reason to if u want them to gasp and scream at the absurdity of a scene, make em watch someone get a buttplug in order to fight- the creators and everyone involved did an amazing job out of having such love and care for what they were making, it simple and its wanting to create something meaningful while also giving that meaning onto the scenes, the character, the moments and everything, its very hard to put all the miles of things i want to say about this movie but its simply so amazing
We cracked the code y’all, all women want are laundry and taxes

Not really. It's more like all men don't like doing laundry and taxes unless they are doing those with their love ones together.
List of reactors please?? Love the compilation btw
I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING!!!
last time i bawled like this while watching a movie was when i watched titanic then it happened again thanks to eeaao
It gives me quite a bit of cringe when I see many of these hypocritical reactions. This scene is truly pure and deep, and many of those who cry in real life will end up choosing their partner for superficial and material reasons.
Gigachad energy too strong
I haven't even watched the movie yet, why am I crying from this one scene? I didn't expect crying with someone reacting.

Waymond is a definitive Short King.
In another life, in another dream, by a different na~a-a~a-ame~
I hope every person finds their Waymond.
It doesn't make much difference, but I wonder why he says "If there was an afterlife/reincarnation, I would still choose to do taxes and run a laundromat with you" in Chinese but is translated to just "In another life I'd have liked to do laundry and taxes with you"

I guess it's the relevance in the US, maybe? As not many people can relate to opening a laundromat. But doing laundry is more common.

@@juanfranciscosongBoth are excellent movies. I get more emotional at the moment in Jerry Maguire when Cuba Gooding Jr recovers from the injury however.
Hardest hitting scene.
This scene broke my girlfriend.

You missed a crucial part. He delivered this line in the universe where he's rich and famous and rubs shoulders with the elite. The point was that he'd give that all up in a heartbeat to do laundry & taxes with Evelyn. And of course, it's also a play on the common saying of "two things that are certain in life"
@CribNotes
11 ай бұрын
@@user-tz9jh6pv2j Yes we know that. But that's not where the power of Waymond's line comes from. It's deeper than "oh I'd give up fame and fortune just to be with you." which is a common cliche.

@@user-tz9jh6pv2j Remember Evelyn's line at the party "We're just going around in circles doing laundry and taxes and laundry and taxes."

dont say it i will please "in another life... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Who the hell is cutting onions in here?
Waymond was the best version of himself, because he had Evelyn,
Who is the yellow-hatted reactor at the end? I’ve never seen his stuff but would like to.
