I cant understand why the search results never bought up this video, but then the youtube algorithm decides to throw this at my recommendations months after i gave up looking for a tutorial to the MK3 and Ableton. Bro should I buy Novation launchkey or akai Mk3 or any other. I use ableton, does my selection should be based on the control for Novation launchkey and ableton? I mostly work in arrangement view. Does it matter (controls)?

Best review so far um youtube. Could you go a bit deeper on the component software. I just bought the launchkey 37, but I can't understand ableton live, so now I want to used it with fl studio 20, is there any way for you to show how to program it with fl studio? Thanks.

Lower the octave on the keyboard, I just figured this out myself recently.

is there an easy way to map the knobs to the effects just on the armed instrument and not just a permanent map for one? so each time i shift to arm another instrument i can change the effect there?

You're welcome! I used Roli Connect to install and made sure to put the plug-ins in my vst folder. After that, go into Ableton and rescan plug-ins. If the rescan doesn't work, hold alt and click rescan.

Probably a noob question but how to have 6 sends for a track? My default ableton live has 2 for reverb and delay.

@@PhillyWatts yes you can. If you have more sends, more blue lights will show up at the bottom section of the pads instead only two.

Thank you for watching Fernando! I make these videos because of that exact reason! Not enough information out there and the manual is difficult to read. I will make a video for you about this, but in the meantime, transpose will change all the notes on your keys up or down. Hold the transpose button and press octave + or - to move up and down the chromatic scale. For example, if I transpose up one time (a semi-tone), a C note will now become a C# note. If I move it up 2 times, a C will become a D. I appreciate you man!

Thanks a lot for the comprehensive video. However, when I switch to "Drum", the pads don't play anything, even though they are correctly assigned. Only the first 4 keys play some drums, rest of the device doesn't play anything in drum mode.

I am planning to buy a MIDI controller, I would needs good pads majorly. mini launchkey mk3 or mk3 37 keys has better pads than arturia minilab mk2 ?

that Custom Mode is nice. do I need to know music theory to play it? I am a complete beginner, and first bought Akai MPK Mk3 but will return it shortly. Launchkey is miles ahead of Akai when it comes to Ableton workflow. the major complaint I got is its keys-feel cheap, and plasticky. I wish I could switch it with Akai's superior keyboard. but nothing's perfect I guess.

Does it have a scale mode for keys?

You'll need to sign into your Novation account and register your launchey mini. From there, it should be in the software section.

Do the buttons only control the very first 8 tracks or they can reach more distant tracks? For example, if I have 16 tracks and I want to control the range from track 9 to track 16, can i do that? Thanks

Holding Shift and pressing Arp or Fixed Chord will select the track before or after the current track, respectively. Doing so will also automatically arm the newly-selected track.

How did you open the Roli Studio Drums in Ableton. Im only able to open it as an application.

When installing, you can choose to include the vst. It usually installs in a default location on your computer. If you have a custom vst folder, you'll have to move it into the custom vst folder and set Ableton's settings to include that custom folder.

My session mode pad wont light up when I press shift. How can I fix this? my device was working a couple days ago its brand new.

I have a Lk mini 3 and i have it updated and new firmware but for some reason when i press a key softly, one note plays, if I press it hard a second note will play. I swear I had this issue with ableton when I first got the mini 3 and fixed it. Now on a new Pc and I can't remember how I fixed it. Any help would be welcome. To be clear its not all the keys, but 4 in the center that do this.

Hey man! I had the same issue! When you hit shift do you see only 3 pads lit up? If so you need to connect your device to notation components and do a firmware update. If that doesn’t work, then you have to put in boot load mode and reload the firmware completely. I had the same issue!

Yep, update the firmware and make sure Ableton is closed before running Components.

@@Ky0l I figured it out it has to do with 1) either your firmware update 2) or your input configureation. Just keep in mind that once you install ableton and get things running you wont need to touch the input output modes.

Hey, i've been struggling with it too. You just have to use the channels page they've built for it. By pressing SHIFT + Transpose the pads will turn red and you can select the midi output channel option (from 1 to 16). You can push the pad corresponding to the channel and it will lightup telling it is selected. The Custom mode send the pots cc messages to the channel selected, so basically we have 128 knobs free to map if you DAW could handle channels.

You're going to probably have to open up Novation Components and update the firmware of your Launchkey Mini. That's what I had to do when that happened to me.

There is talk all the time that you can control so many parameters with the Ableton launch key that you would not even need to have a computer screen running. Something that surprises me in every video when it comes to Ableton launchkey is that the mouse is touched a lot & you look at your screen. Launchkey is thus not so developed that you can skip the computer screen. Have I understood this correctly?

You'd have to be a pro at using it and your session would have to be completely set up beforehand in order to do that.

Right away, I used to be able to switch modes, and now the only modes available are Drum and Custom. The other ones are gone. Every time I use Ableton something simply doesn't work and I hate it.

Update the firmware on the launchkey mini using the components software. Make sure Ableton is closed when you do it

@@PhillyWatts I checked, and it seems like the only firmware available is the factory base firmware, which I assumed I must've already had. Nothing changed, I used to use this all the time just months ago and I plugged it in today and it's basically stuck in Usb Mass storage mode

@@PhillyWatts I downloaded a usb driver (probably already had it) and the Components software, but the components software is incapable of doing anything without freezing. The browser based one says my device isn't connected even though it technically is, and works in limited capacity.

SOLVED: Vegas mode and Mass Storage mode have never once been an issue for me. But I figured out how to turn them off and it started acting like normal. Before plugging in the Launchkey, *hold the Shift Button.* When you plug in, this will show a blue light (Vegas mode idle lights) and a Yellow light (USB mass storage mode, for accessing Quick Start stuff). After toggling those modes, push "Play" to resume. This should fix it.

yo how de feck do you use the keyboard ? am I missing something or is mine faulty like the rgb pads work fine but yeah press the piano keys and nothin... =/

At least with Ableton Live it just loses the MIDI connection for me all the time if you go out of the app, into sleep mode, or anything really. Need to restart Ableton and likely things will just work. Best to always quite Live when you stop working to avoid issues with MIDI or audio.

Only problem is they are pods and not encoders. The Arturia mini gives you encoders for the same price.

ive never thought how difficult this launhkey mini. i wish ive never bought it. i just dont know how to work it out.

Only notes on custom mode... i am a little dissapointed.

You'll have to install the newest firmware using the novation components app. Here is a link to the web version, but there is also a standalone version you can download. components.novationmusic.com/ Also, make sure to enable the Launchkey in Ableton's Midi settings.
