I am glad to have made it to the start of it all alive and well after waiting so many years to reach that date. Hot take but this trailer confirms one of my main fears about Mito sticking around. Without delving too deep into spoiler territory, there's two new characters that appear in the Floor 5 story named Liten and Shivata. While they are still present for the boss fight, one of their highlighting moments is going to have their role in that moment replaced by Asuna and Mito based on what the trailer is showing us (those who have read the Light Novel will know which moment I'm referring to). I was somewhat alright with Mito's inclusion for Aria of a Starless night cause frankly it's a short story even in the light novels and a good chunk of it was already mostly covered in episode 2 of the anime, so they needed something to increase runtime to a decent length (could have done it in other ways imo, but whatever). However, by Mito not dying or leaving the front lines after the Illfang fight, it kind of forces her to stay relevant to the story, usually at the cost of shoehorning her into certain moments. I don't dislike Mito as a character, but I hate how they're having her steal the spotlight from other interesting characters and moments like with Liten and Shivata. Sure they're side characters in Progressive, but they're good ones and frankly don't deserve this disrespect. And heck, they could have easily made Mito and Asuna have a relevant moment in this boss fight by having them both take Nezha's big moment with some kind of combo move instead of Mito doing it herself like the trailer is implying (sure I'd like to see Nezha too, but I can at least understand them not having him in the movie since they're skipping Rondeau of a Fragile Blade for whatever reason). But no. We have to take away a beautiful Liten and Shivata moment instead apparently. Call me crazy for preferring the movie to stick as close to the light novel story as possible, but that's just my take on what they're doing with Mito.

Tbh i understand why they decided to do that, because we barely knew about Shivata and Liten to care about their character in Anime because the jump to Floor 5, unlike in the novel where we have more background about their character,and don't worry about Mito role in the future adaptation after this movie because based on spoiler, Mito decide to leave the frontline after this movie,so i guess they will not included her again moving forward if they planning to adapting Elf War Quest after it finish.

@@catboy1496 but Shivata and Liten didn't really have that much background explanation since they were introduced right before the boss fight even in the light novels so it's not like they would have needed to take long with that. The jump to Floor 5 is irrelevant since they were introduced in Scherzo anyway. And Mito leaving brings up yet another issue I have with her character in the sense that they kind wrote themselves into a corner with her. Keeping her around brings up the issue of her stealing the spotlight from other characters, but if she leaves now without dying and doesn't make a reappearance, that begs the question of where the hell was she in future arcs since she was Asuna's best friend irl before SAO. Her being absent during the ALO arc would be a stretch to try and explain, I guess you could say Kirito and Agil weren't in contact with her for whatever reason, but she would still be a major part of Asuna's life once they returned from SAO to the point where we should have seen her somewhere.

@@fangi6885 That's very different. Yes the HP books and films have differences but a majority of those changes were minor and most things cut out were to keep the movies at a reasonable runtime. I don't think the films ever introduced a new major character that wasn't in the books.

@@catboy1496 I hope the spoiler you mentioned is real. I really don’t want Mito messing with the story any longer. I don’t hate her, and you can call me crazy if you want, but even if the changes were small, I want there to be as much accuracy to the light novel as possible. Mito being absent from the remaining part of it will satisfy me for that accuracy.

Isn't it kind of weird that they threw in a female original character that was friends with asuna beforehand, and then made her subservient to Kirito? Oh, I'm not complaining, since Kirito is an absolute goat, but I still think its bit... you know? Is there a point to her character at all, since progressive already happened without her? I wonder why Reki added her?

Maybe for adding more scene? I mean, 1 volume isn't enough to fill the movie. They also skip volume 2 & 3 and choose volume 4 where Kizmel didn't appear in floor 5th. Idk tho.

@@Slippypippy270 no, the movies are from reki's novels, the sao progressive one. mito was just an original character that was creating by the studio and didn't exist in reki's books.
