Üks isamaalisi ilusamaid laule, siirad tänusõnad Renè Eesperele! Esimest korda laulsin seda muusikakoolis, siiani sügaval südames :)

Väga südamlik ja üks ilusamaid Eesti laule. Rohkem kui kümme aastat tagasi laulsin seda suure uhkusega laulupeol ja koorilaulu tundides.

Nii ilus laul, nii ilusalt maalt! Mulle kallilt maalt, kuigi olen soomlane.

We sing through tears of sadness and happiness.

The song "Ärkamise aeg" (Time of Awakening) was written in 1983, during the peak of the stagnation of the Soviet Union, just before the first signs of the actual end of the USSR. Words had to be carefully chosen to ensure that the song would be approved by the Soviet authorities. Composer and author René Eespere accomplished this task beautifully. Soviet censor was dumb enough not to see the meaning of the words in the way as Estonians do.

Oleme jõudnud aega kus vabaks laulmine on jääv mineviku unelm. Taas on aeg kus parteimeelsus on liigitanud inimesed ..igaveseks. Hirm tervete ja vaktsineerimata inimeste osas on meid paisanud uude vangistusse. Mõelda vaid. On aeg kus inimesi ei lubata laulupeole kui pole ette näidata partei heakskiitvat luba. Ahastus. Ja kõik parteimeelsed kiidavad seda olukorda ja arvavad et lähevad laulavad vabadusest.
