Laughing through life by your side | Cute & Tearful Wedding in Dallas, Texas

📷 Filmed with this: kit.co/whoisma...
Emotional may be the best word to describe Caitlin and Tanner's wedding day. In fact, we can't really think of a time that one of them wasn't happy crying. Misty-eyed tears started being shed while they struggled to read letters to us that they had written throughout their dating relationship. This soon accelerated into a weepy gift exchange, and culminated in heaving sobs as they saw each other for the first time. Surprisingly, they held it together pretty well for the ceremony, but when the toasts started they lost it all over again. The night ended with the two of them dancing in an empty reception hall, tears streaming down their faces.
But we did say this wedding was emotional, and that word means far more than only happy tears. Laughter was present as Tanner vowed to Caitlin that he would "always have fun, be silly, and not take life too seriously." A feeling of anticipation ran through the room as Tanner's dad officiated the ceremony. And joy was seen in many creative ways by Caitlin and Tanner's moves on the dance floor.

    Hi Matt, just wanted to say you're such a big inspiration to me as a wedding videographer! I hope I can be half as good as you someday. I was wondering how you always get such good closeup shots during the dance party? How do you get so close to the people dancing without them feeling uncomfortable dancing with a camera so close to them (what lens are you using for the majority of the dance shots)? Do you have any tips on getting better dance shots? I find a lot of my shots just end up being wide with too many people in them as I get shoved out during the dance parts. And even when I get into the middle of the dance floor people tend to avoid the camera or get in my way as they're dancing (I can't get clear shots of people's faces as they're dancing and moving around). Lastly, do you usually shoot all your dances in 60fps? All these questions are regarding the dancing at the end of the night, not the first dance. Thank you so much!

    Hi Matt, quick question about the Intro. I watched your how to film a first look video and noticed you shot this in 60fps however it doesn't look like you slowed it down but you talk about how you edit in a 24 fps timeline. I'm asking because Im shooting a first look on Sunday and Im torn if I should shoot 60fps and slow it down or go with 24 for the audio.

  • @whoismatt

    @whoismatt

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hey! I shot at 60 to give me flexibility in post. You never know how the first look will go. The groom may have had minimal reaction so slow motion would have drawn the moment out longer. In this case, he was super emotion so it felt better to keep things in real time speed. :)

    There seem to be a few shots pretty obviously out of focus (1:46, 2:07, 2:33, 2:40, 3:07) Are these stylistic choices? and if so, what is the purpose of them? Or is it mainly just a manual focus thing? Really enjoy the storytelling you capture, and your dancing sequences and use of prisms are always superb. Thanks for all your hard work!

  • @seanwhitevideo

    Just a guess, but it was probably the shot that told the story, rather than the most technically accurate. It's always difficult to balance the two, but in the eyes of the couple, if it was my film being edited, i'd rather have a soft-focus shot of what told the story, rather than a pin-sharp shot of something less likely to help me remember the day...

    Hey James! Wish I could say that my shots are perfect 100% of the time, but unfortunately I’m not always sharp. That said, like Sean was saying, I pick the shots that worked best for the moment, even if they weren’t technically perfect. 😅 I’m still practicing and improving all the time!

As I'm putting together my first wedding right now, I realize how incredible time-consuming it is to try to pick the best story you can tell of the day. I've learned a lot from your experiences. Thanks for continuing to teach and inspire!
