    I like to think Kitty said she didn't show up because she didn't want to see Puss continue to put himself down because she'd already seen him at his lowest earlier with his panic attack. Even if she did show up, she didn't let her heart be there. There's that trope of people listening in the background and then making a dramatic scene about it but she doesn't do that and I think that was a creative decision by the writers and I appreciated it. Another cool detail I liked is whenever she was in the company of those she trusted, she had her mask off, then puts it right back on when that trust wasn't there especially on the Star when telling Puss about her wish. This movie was handled with such passion, it deserves all the love it's gotten!

    the only thing i would change about kitty is her design. i think the artists missed a perfect chance to make her even better with one single change. this movie is already about a cat who wears boots, so instead of also giving her boots, i wish they would give her gloves with attached claws on instead. by doing that; 1) she would have a design that is more unique to her 2) it would enrich her character by showing her ingenuity. but also giving her more depth by showing how declawed make her traumatized and constantly need to hide her paws to do not keep remembering the bad memories

    there's a theory about perrito's route that's one of the most bittersweet ones i've seen - his areas of the map could all be references to death. the pocket of posies is very likely about the nursery rhyme supposedly about the bubonic plague which killed a huge portion of humanity. the river of relaxation could refer to the river his owners threw him in (or even the river styx from greek mythology, which led to the underworld), and quick and easy solutions could very well be talking about the common (and obviously untrue) assumption that suicide is a quick and easy solution to life's problems. however, due to his almost supernatural levels of sheer gratitude at being alive, none of it really bothers him and he's able to pass through it.

    Death (aka The Wolf or Lobo) is without a doubt one of DreamWorks best but also terrifying antagonists in years and Wagner Moura (a Brazilian actor) who is best known Pablo Escobar in _Narcos_ really knocks it out of the park. Interestingly despite his actions in the film Death is by no means a villain as he has a sense of honor and nobility, as his main reason for pursuing Puss in the first place was to punish him for arrogantly squandering his eight lives with reckless abandon, concluding from this that it would be best to kill him before he wasted his final life. 🐺🐺 Another thing to note is that before Puss in Boots meets him at the bar, Death appears in a blink-and-you-miss moment when Puss was battling the Giant where he was in a slight dark corner and compared to the Crowd he was not cheering for Puss but watching him to see if he gets killed and hints of him of his wolf head and sickles were seen on the edges of Puss' death card numbers. Finally, Death's quote in Spanish when he was defeated by Puss: _"¿POR QUE DIABLOS FUI A JUGAR CON MI COMIDA?!?"_ translates to _"WHY THE HELL DID I PLAY WITH MY FOOD?!?"_ in English.

    The thing with Puss freaking out at the antagonist is that this is more than just an anxiety attack of the character’s personal fear, this is Death. Personified, Flesh and Blood Death. This is a fear that every living thing can relate to. One of the details that I love is that the corner embellishments of Puss' death-count cards the wolf. It is so easy to miss when you see it the first time, with not having been introduced to him yet, but when you look... there it is. He was there for each of Puss' deaths. I do dearly love the wolf as death, though. It wasn't that he had a grudge with, it was the showboating, arrogant, git who was obsessed with his legend above all else, and by the end of the movie... that person is gone. Oh, Pus is still pretty amazing, and able to be heroic, but he isn't the arrogant, showboating, self-obsessed jerk anymore. And, y'know, I can't blame death for being pissed off at "the legend," because it made Puss careless. Even within the movie, you see that with how reckless he is, he actively puts others in danger. Yes, he saved everyone from the giant, but the fact remains that if he hadn't been such a complete showoff during the fight with the governor's men and busted out the fireworks, he would never have had to save them in the first place, there wouldn't have been the damage to the town, and... Puss wouldn't have lost his last life. That's the kind of thing that would drive any reasonable personification of death absolutely berserk.

    I can definitely understand Goldi and why she wants the wish that she wants. If you look at it from the point of view of a child who was adopted into a family, who feels out of place and disconnected at times, you start to realize that she isn't trying to be mean or cruel, she's just trying to find herself, she's trying to find who she is. Imagine if it was the reverse, a bear being raised by a family of humans and that bear starts to realize that they aren't a human and they really want to know more about what it is to be a bear. It's not that Goldi doesn't love her family, because she does, it's just that she feels that disconnect. Every time Papa Bear brings up hibernating, well she can't hibernate because she's a human, every time they talk about anything bear related, she feels that disconnect. Then on Death, he has a lot of cool foreshadowing things and a lot of cool lines. Like when he and Puss first me he says, "My compliments to your cobbler." and chuckles, giving the impression that he met the person who made his boots and guided her into the afterlife. There's also the whole shadow of Death moment when Puss is hiding in the bathroom. Then when he appears in the forest for the first time, the rocks and trees around him look like a skull. I also like to think that he was there when Perrito almost died in that river and that when it's Perrito's time, he will be far kinder than he was to Puss because Perrito values his one, singular life.

    Honestly, I've seen a ton of people saying they think Kitty was lying when she said she didn't show up to the church herself, because why would she be mad otherwise? But I don't think Puss not showing up to the church and their wedding was what made her so mad. Remember that on the river she says she hasn't seen his face since Santa Coloma. One of Puss's biggest issues in the movie is that since he's "never afraid," he has no idea how to handle fear, and is very resistant to learning. It wasn't just that his fear made him leave Kitty at the altar, but that when he did so, he ran away ENTIRELY and avoided ever seeing her again. For someone who must have cared about him a lot, it would have hurt to not just have him abandon the wedding but up and abandon even their entire friendship. She realized she'd never measure up to his "first love," himself, "the legend" before the wedding even happened, but he proved her brutally right in the worst possible way, not just putting his love for his own legend over marrying her but over even being in her life at all.

  • @PetarSon
    @PetarSon Жыл бұрын

    I honestly think that she did show up at the wedding, and that she was angry for a reason, but when Puss told Perito why things happened the way they did, she understood everything, and she made up a story to let him know that maybe this time he wouldn't run away, because she wouldn't have imagined ever hearing that side of him before, and she tells him to his face that his legend was more important to him than anything else, and that now she no longer sees that in him, seeing how much he values the people around him, and how he is turning into the person she's been looking for all her life, which is why she mentioned sharing the wish because she wants him, and he's left to make his own wish. She literally made up a story for him to let him know why he left, and how she now sees a change in him that he can't see yet in the movie.

    I have a theory about Kitty's claim of not being at the church. She has deep trust issues and is prideful. To be willing to go through with marrying Puss would've put a toll emotionally on her. I wouldn't be surprised if she lied to him. She was there, waiting at the altar and when he didn't show she thought to herself that she should've expected that to happen because she knew Puss' ego about being seen as a legend. I predict that in the Shrek movie to follow this one it comes out. She sees how happy Fiona is with Shrek and she admits to Fiona that she was actually there waiting for Puss at the altar, which Puss or Perrito overhear.

    There's a theory that suggest that Kitty did actually show up but just lied to Puss after realising he is at his lowest, besides Kitty wouldn't be upset if she never did show up with expectations.

    I really love that The Big Bad Wolf is the representation of Death as he always portrays death and danger in original fairy tales like in Little Red Riding Hood and The 3 Little Pigs.

    You just KNOW it's gonna be a good reaction when the reactor gushes about Harvey Guillén and gushes about What we do in the Shadows. (not to mention I love your little breaks talking about the movie, it's structure and the themes within it, feels refreshing to listen to someone who's also a big fan of movies, stories and with technical knowledge talk about the movie itself) Also, about the tune whistled by Death, the fact that they chose to have an almost nursery-rhyme type of tune played in a major key, rather than a minor key which usually is used to connotate themes of Death is a really interesting choice, it's so incredibly upsetting just how happy the tune sounds in terms of melodic structure. Also the "she didn't show up either" could easily be a lie, a lie told to try and diminish Puss' guilt while teasing him and still giving him the hint that she is still interested in trying a relationship again with the "You just don't seem like that guy anymore" Edit: Another fun fact that I remembered watching the Puss V Death scene. Did you know that the battle between Puss & Death and Puss & The giant is set in sync with the movie's soundtrack?! IT IS SO GOOOD!

    I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but many people seems to not realize the reference behind Death putting the golden coins on his eyes. During ancient times people believed that when a person dies, Charon would take the souls to deliver them to Hades. To do so, they had to pay a golden coin, because they thought that Charon wanted payment to deliver the soul of a dead person. So they used to cover one or even two of the corpse's eyes as payment towards Charon.

    _Puss in Boots: The Last Wish_ joins alongside _The Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Knight, Top Gun: Maverick_ and _Shrek 2_ where the sequel is better than the first film. But without a doubt the highlight of the film wasn’t the story, or it’s voice acting but the animation as compared to the first Puss in Boots film this gives off a 2D cel shaded look very reminiscent to the visuals seen in _Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse_ and _Arcane_ especially the former as the filmmaker for this film cite Spider-Verse for the visuals in _The Last Wish_ especially during the fight scenes where the animation is drawn in twos.

    Jack horner was one of the many little songs making fun of rich guys, but then the story of pinocchio overshadowed those. His name in the short song was "little jack horner" so now his name is big jack horner cause he was the boy who stuck his thumb in the pies, but now he owns them and he wants to feel powerful. This movie brought back what shrek did and i'm still so happy for this gem. I cry every time i watch it, from the art to the story and the ending.

    I just watched the German version and they were so daring with the swearing there lol it caught me so off guard. I thought Germany was going to be super uptight about this and make it extremely child friendly. When mama bear holds Perrito by his scruff, she doesn't say "Clever little bugger", she says "clever little shit". Baby doesn't say "cat pee", he says "cat piss", and when Perrito talks about all the names his previous owners gave him, he doesn't say "**** for brains", he says "***ck face", and one of the sisters at Jack Horner's bakery says "geiler Scheiß" which means "cool shit" ("geil" is a rather vulgar word that most commonly gets used to describe hot girls or guys you want to have sex with)

    One thing I heard mentioned, and I really appreciate since then, is in the panic attack scene. It's easy to expect it'll be resolved with belly rubs, as it seems to be foreshadowed earlier. But, in that moment, there's no joke, no corny solution, just sombre companionship. I have to wonder if that was a deliberate, denial of payoff to the earlier prompt for emphasis

    my favourite scene is the scythe coming down on the metal bolt: frame by frame you see the scythe come down first, and the bolt splits in two with a glowing red ends from the heat generated by the friction. It reminds me of the still image of the Speed Racer's 6 in the Grand Prix scene. It's movie making genius.
