Lateral Knee Stability After Total Knee Replacement

The knee is stable because of ligaments while at rest. If your mcl or lcl has been ruptured, the knee will be loose or unstable laterally. After a knee replacement there is a change that your knee is unstable laterally. A varus valgus test will help you understand the condition of these ligaments.
An unstable knee can be strengthened and the muscles surrounding the knee will help stability during activity, but at rest the knee will remain unstable.

I appreciate the explanation of the knee feeling tight after a total knee replacement. I am 23 weeks post op with a feel that the tightness has gone away for the most part. I am wondering what to do with what feels like a knot above the knee cap, right under the scar. My PT has suggested that I use a roller, using a motion of rolling towards my torso. In addition to using a roller the recommendation of the Graston technique. Do you have any videos or advice about using these methods and when to anticipate the knot will no longer be a daily concern?

I am sorry to say that I had a TKR 20 months ago and I am still in pain daily, I followed all of the advice about exercising including swimming and cycling. I have had numerous x-rays and a CT scan and the surgeons say that all is fine. I need to take co-codamol, and Naproxin daily. If I had the choice I would not have the operation again.

Have you worked with people who have revision surgery due to fracture below TKR? Is there hope for return to normal walking? I am facing this after a year of waiting for a fracture to heal . Would love to hear some success stories

I had an acl surgery 10 years ago. Now on this same knee, I've had a TKR and I'm 12 days post op. While walking with crutches, my new knee feels like it's about to give out every 20th step or so. Should I be worried? My knee never did that before surgery. I will say that since surgery, my quad muscle is super weak.

The sensation is pretty normal. Especially so early in the recovery process. The quad is inhibited after surgery and while the knee is swollen. I spend most of the first two weeks just building confidence in the leg and knowing when to stop pushing it in order to let it recover. You should do great. Just give it time.

What is your knee ROM like on each knee? If you don't have full extension you may be placing added stress on the knees and back.
