    is this from early 1990s? It could be. He died in 93. "Customs in Common" was published in 91.

    Aye good point. I can hear it a bit in Roy Porter tho he was a grammar school boy and went to Cambridge.

    @@edskeates5357 It signifies an experience which can signify a class experience which can signify class innit. So accent is an imperfect signifier of class, which we can use to roughly gauge representation. In this case a quick skim of wikipedia lets us know that celestial teapot's implication that there's a lack of working class representation on this telly programme about the working class based on their accents is... accurate.
