I'm of Irish descent living in Texas. I had never heard of Shane until last week after his death. I had heard of The Pogues. I was never into the drug culture or Punk. It does interest me to watch all these videos of how Shane destroyed his body. It occurs when you use alcohol, prescription medicine, and other legal and illegal substances too much. Isn't it interesting how these people juice up to be a genius or a natural talent and are seen with powerfully impressive talent?

👍. Not sure about the 'thought you would never die' bit though. It reminds me of Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty. When they were all at the height of their fame I wouldn't have been shocked to see on the news that any one of them had died young. Obviously we lost one of them young and another outlived most people's expectations by 30-40 years, and the other looks so healthy now he is probably more at risk from dieing from a heart attack and high cholesterol!! Rip Shane and Amy .

I remember pulling over to a roadside stop next to a lake and making my wife join me for a goofy dance, around the car, to "Fiesta" which I cranked on my car stereo as people stared, driving by. She was so embarrassed but I'll never forget the laughs and her smiling. Lost her to a car wreck only a few years later. Hurts when the song comes on and that pain battles with the warm remembrances that try to put a smile on my face.

In Victoria Australia in the 1950s no one bothered to ask if your name was Irish, because Irish names were so common, along with multiple Pat's, Mick's and Bluey's. But we still love him, and are happy to see him. When you’re a bit older yourself, you might have a different perspective. I remember watching Shane being interviewed by Frank Skinner (I think), and the interviewer seemed to be making fun of him, but Jaysus, I couldn’t stop laughing every time Shane laughed and the wind whistled through his teeth, and the whole thing was totally cringeworthy, and I felt embarrassed to be laughing, and I felt sad to see my hero brought so low. But the last time I watched it a couple of years ago, I was thinking, oh, I am so glad this is available on KZread and didn’t Shane look so fine and youthful in spite of the gaps where teeth once were.

Nice to See Shane! Nice to hear him singing! Nice to hear him being the inspiration for the Pogues! Sad to see him being wheeled out an A Crap RTÉ program when he was getting old and Clearly unwell! :-( just being used to boost their ratings! :-(

I haven't seen Shane in a long time, and I felt rather miserable seeing him here. It's clear his brain still works fine, but the rest of him is very, very tired.

I used to play and sing in a band and had to watch how much i drank because I'd forget how to play, I'd forget the chords and the lyrics. Somehow shane never forgot the lyrics .

This is a bit great and a bit difficult to watch now. The man wasn’t in great shape here, yet it was 2019 and still somehow made it through a whole frickin’ pandemic just to spite the doubters just for shits. RIP

Went to see the Pogues decades ago. Shane had to be held up on stage by two men, he was so wasted. I thought he'd be a goner soon then, but he pulled through for many years after. A very special man with a special heart. RIP, you will be missed

I remember finding Shane’s vulnerable performance moving at the time. Now it’s unbearably tender (in spite of Philomena’s shockingly poor performance - even if she’d never heard the song, surely she could have rehearsed it a couple of times?)

Totally agree how naff Philomena was on what was such a famous song. Shane sang it better than her.
