Born in 1969, and I absolutely love to see the Toronto I remember from my youth.
100 times better than TO of today
I really miss those days.

Me too, yet I wasn’t even born until 2001. I don’t know why I feel nostalgic

I was born in TO in the 80's and grew up there in the 90's. Soo good to see old footage from when I was a kid. In many ways it's the same, but in many more ways it's a very very different place.

Agreed, such clarity, amazing!
I'm having trouble understanding how someone had access to this kind of video quality back then , this footage is outstanding!

You know how old movies look good? Film was high-resolution. This isn't even a particularly good example.

i look at these old videos and hope to see myself in one of them, but of course i never do. Everything changes so slowly over the years you never notice, then one day you discover everything has changed. Love this these clips from the past.
Flashback in the 70's & 80's
Great footage and great quality! I really miss those days, a time when toronto actually functioned - and there weren't ugly cookie-cutter condos going up on every vacant piece of land!

A dead downtown full of parking lots, a highly polluted waterfront and smog days for weeks....

@@AndreasDuessca Yeah people really like to put on their rose tinted glasses, things weren't all bad, but Toronto was much dirtier, uglier, and violent back in the 70s and 80s. As cool as this footage is, shots of buildings, traffic and street corners doesn't tell the whole story.
people say there was never traffic before . lol I see traffic back then😂

It would be more accurate to say there was less traffic back then. Was still bad at rush hour, though.

It's just these days rush hour is 24 hours long :D
My god there were trees inside the Eaton Centre at one point? I would’ve never known otherwise if it weren’t for these videos. The Centre looked so beautiful back then but now they’re just cramming in multiple stores as much as possible. Look at that walkway at 0:26 for example, what it looks like now is very different and has zero character at all.
I prefer the old days. If Canada is not banning real estate wholesaling practice and refinancing landlords, we will see decline in prosperity through out the country.
Toronto the good
16mm film, quality holds up well,.
Dude the color of the camera kinda changes the look of it and it for some reason reminds me of Mario kart wii
U should see Yorkdale today wow & the Eaton center is way bigger my grandmother worked at Eaton downtown when they first opened for 23 years then she left to take care of us in the 70s she just had 2 more years she would of gotten a diamond ring

Interesting question! If you were at this location today the road would indeed be named the Gardiner Expressway, but at the time the film was shot, the Gardiner Expressway ended at the Humber river and the name of the road changed to The Queen Elizabeth Way, usually known as the "QEW". In 1997 the ownership of the section of the QEW from the Humber river to highway 427 was transferred from the province of Ontario to the City of Toronto and as part of that ownership transfer the name Gardiner was extended from the Humber river to the South end of highway 427 and the name of the road now changes to QEW there. I drove that road twice a day for 5 years (1975-1980) living in downtown Toronto and working at Pearson airport so I know it well from the era shown in this film.
Too bad everything wasn't still like the 80s

Turns out we invented HD before we invented SD 😂
Now this Canada Dream is gone! I am certain that 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and the beginning of the 2000s - it was great place to live! Later then, it became TOTALLY AWKWARD! We are rather living in CANADIAN NIGHTMARE!
Life before Palestinian encampments, and injection sites sure seemed civil.
