Tom should watch DS9. DS9 is literally everything he would love in a Star Trek show. I think he would fucking love it.

That bit where Riker was like "We can't go back" was terrifying imagining that the Borg had assimilated most of the Alpha Quadrant, imagine what kind of hellscape that would be, think it constitutes a bit more than a bit of pressure lmao. The fact that the Enterprise was still going too indicated they'd have to have fled from trying to save so many worlds including Earth, big yikes.

Yes! I really hope he gives it a chance at some point. For the longest time I had only seen TNG and Voyager and thought no Trek could be better than TNG until I finally got around to DS9 when it came to Netflix. Now I would argue DS9 is the better show.

Awww I loved the new episodes, it’s got the same structure as TOS, my favourite rendition. The first episode does take a bit to start as it would rely Discovery too much to tell you the central themes if they didn’t spend time telling us what happened. The second episode is a comet episode so it’s a given that it’s good.

Strange New Worlds is back to being Star Trek. The first episode is ok and sets the scene and characters adequately but episode two takes us back to good old weird aliens and scenarios in an episodic format. The characters are strong and sympathetic, the acting is good and the story seems like a return to form from the, quite honestly, pure horse shite of Picard and Discovery. Long may it continue but it does sort of make me angry that if they were capable of this all along what have they been doing for the last twenty years.

When Sisko interacts with Q he decks him. DS9 is a very different show. Duet, In the pale moonlight, It's only a paper moon, Far beyond the stars, Necessary evil, the die is cast, etc, etc. There are some real stinkers, looking at you Prophet and Lace, but DS9 goes places that TNG never did.

moral of the story from Tapestry: Even the bad things that happen in our lives make us who we are today and going back in time to change those things could lead to a version of yourself you wouldn't like. Don't be hasty to condemn the bad things cause the alternative may be worse. Nowadays, they wouldn't ever do this moral. They would assume that whatever bad thing happened to someone in their past should be changed and everything is great afterwards. They would be like "lets go back in time and murder people cause environmentalism and racism!"

@@matthewa.seibert1809 Season 2 of Picard setup a fictional, future and the solution was to go back in time and fix it. They had to make that future absolutely terrible in order to justify that changing the past was the correct solution. What they didn't do was show a future that was different, but the characters assumed should be fixed. Then conclude with the characters realizing that changing the past would make things worse or not create the intended outcomes. Nope, change the past cause the characters kno best and everything will turn out exactly as you wanted it to. Terrible writing.

@@matthewa.seibert1809 ah, there are so many plot threads I wasn't sure what exactly you were referring to and thought you were referring to the overarching plot of "fixing" the past because the future is terribly racist and xenophobic. The plot with Picards mother is similar, but pretty different. Its more about Picard forgiving his father, who he held responsible, learning the truth of his mothers mental illness, and accepting his childhood trauma (dumb imo). There was no decision, or growth, or understanding. There was discovery of truth, which is very different to growth.
