Ranbo is actually a hen! :D you can tell by the lack of spurs, the wide tail feathers, and the lack of a pronounced waddle. Hens are much rounder than roosters with softer looking feathers.

I had a "pet" duck. My duck and I were pretty tight, and we had our own language. I home schooled her as if she was my child. I was amazed at how far she got. It changed my mind completely about the intelligence and sentience of animals. My duck lived with me 24/7/365 for 31 years, and I have had as hard a time with her death as I had with my son's death. In a way, I have lost two children, and that has been very hard. It may have been difficult, but if you really wanted to, I'm sure you could have found a way to keep Rambo. It is a really big commitment though, and since the two of you didn't bond as tightly as my duck and I did, he's probably better off where he is now. My duck wouldn't have survived outside. She didn't know how to be a duck and would have had very big problems if I put her out. We were inseparable and that's the way it had to be. By the way, there is a way to tell if a chicken is a boy or a girl as soon as they are out of the egg, but it's not at all comfortable for the bird, and if you don't know what you're looking for you won't know. Birds have an all-purpose hole called a cloaca. They use it not only for getting rid of bodily waste, but also for sex. If you turn a baby chicken over and and push down and back just behind the belly, it will expose the inside of the bottom of the cloaca. If there is a very tiny bump in there, you have a boy chicken, and if there is no bump, you have a girl chicken. You must be very careful when doing it because you can hurt the baby chicken and kill it if you do it wrong, and you need to have a very good eye to be able to see the bump. I had to try on 16 chickens before I finally found it, and I had to look at quite a few more before I got to the point where I could tell every time. I was lucky and learned from someone who had been doing it forever, so I had a very good teacher. If I had to do it myself without any guidance, I'm sure I would never have learned how to do it.

Awww I loved your story. I'm sorry for your loses (both your son and your duck). I can't imagine how dificult it should be for you, I lost my cat but I only had him for 8 years and it broke my heart, you had your duck for 31 years, that's a whole life. He's in a better place now, you give him a good life and love. I'm sure he was very happy to be by your side. ❤️

@@naomi-USA She was a very happy little duck, and often told me so.The delight she took in life was memorable, and just as it did with my son, her little discoveries helped me to rediscover that child-like way of viewing things. I know that the hole in my being left by both of them will be there forever, but I'm far better for their having been in my life than my life would have been without them. For that reason I know that I am incredibly lucky to have had them both in my life. Thank you for your caring words. They are very much appreciated.

I can relate to your story I have an Amazon parrot ( yellow crowned ) , I got her when she was 5 days old and hand fed it, then she grew up and when she was around 7 months old I started to train her free flying it took me around 1 month of training when I decided to set her completely free without a harness now she's 5 years old and she probably doesn't know that she's a parrot and we've got the best bond between us. She trust me and I trust her. We go on trips, cycling, hiking, camping etc... always together. Btw her name is Cookie so yeah basically I can't imagine it without her.

I totally felt this, it brought me to tears b/c I was in a similar situation years ago. When I was in college, I had to re-home a puppy that was not getting along well with one of my dogs,to the point where they were fighting so badly that I knew one of them was going to seriously injure the other Anyhow, it took a bit to find a new family for the pup and I was super anxious and stressed over the situation. I agreed to deliver the puppy to his new home..when I got there and went inside , my heart just sank. it wasn't an animal hoarder or something that horrific....but it also was not what I had expected after talking to the adopter earlier. But, .for many reasons, none of them good enough to warrant though...I left the puppy with them. Over 20 years later, I still berate myself for failing that poor dog. I knew the situation was not right, and I dread considering how things ended up. It may sound dramatic, but I consider it one of the larger moral failures of my life. I should have done what you did for Rambo: gone back for the puppy & cared for him until I found a beautiful home. But, I didn't and it haunts me to this day. I've been a pet parent who is in it from adoption to the animals last breath., for every pet I've been blessed with since that day, though and try to advocate for animals who need a voice as much as I can. I know that little puppy helped spark the passion I have for animals/animal welfare of all kinds...I'm no Betty White or Steve Irwin..but I feel like his legacy has helped better a few other animals lives. wow...so yeah, you hit all my feels with this. Thank you for being a good 'egg'.

in April I decided to buy button quail eggs from ebay (it came with 4 surprise coturnix quail eggs) and seeing them hatch and grow was amazing to see 🥺 the coturnix quail (his name is fluffles) was born with splayed legs and I took him to the vet a few times to get that corrected I wanted all my chicks happy and healthy 🥺❤ I kept two quails one button quail named lucky and fluffles. Lucky is called lucky because I needed to help her out of the egg she could have died if it weren't for my intervention!

I had to give up my rooster and later my two hens because of similar conditions that you have. It was heartbreaking. I was about 10. I'm 40 now and the pain is still with me. People say it's just a chicken, but for me it was no different than losing a cat or dog. A pet, no matter what it is, becomes part of the family, specially if you raise it from an early age.

So true. I feel you very much! I'm almost 40 and I'm also still subconsciously suffering the losses of my childhood chickens. Two of them, Pinky and Brain, got eaten by my neighbor, because they sang at every hour of the day and my dad got annoyed and gave them away just before I joined the US Army. I refuse to suffer again, so I resist the urge of having any pet chickens. Every time I see one, I have to make an effort not to cry! My neighbor has a few and one of them made its way to my yard two days ago, and I saw it chilling under a palm tree in my front yard and eating the red berries, and I choked up!

'You can't even imagine what it's like to have a chicken as a pet!' I can, actually. As someone who has own hens since 2013, I've had my fair share of chickens! And I can agree with you, they are wonderful, rambunctious animals with a lot of energy! One more warning, if you ever decide to own more chickens, have 2 or 3, they get lonely alone! Oh and, if you are going to ever leave a chicken outside, please keep an eye on it! I've personally lost a few hens to foxes and other wild animals, also make sure they don't escape, roads, dogs and lakes/ponds/rivers can be very dangerous!

Yah, chickens should ALWAYS be keeped in a secure enclosure after sunset. Let them roam around during the day then use food or treats (or yourself if they are more bonded to you) to get them into a coup / enclosure.... Raccoons will even kill chickens. Really, don't leave ANY animal out over night, even in most cities. You'd be surprised what is wandering around outside after dark. My city has a bunch of raccoons and even coyotes that are seen in the middle of residential areas 5+ miles from any place that they would have a den. ... so ya KNOW they are hunting for food and that food is gonna be your chickens, cats etc that are left outside over night.

I wish I could explain why this video moved me so much, I guess something about the age old question; "what came first.. the chicken, or the egg??" Well I guess this doesn't prove what came in what order.. But it does prove the egg to be irrelevant for sustaining conditions to thrive in from insemination to birth.. This proves anything is possible, but there was something about seeing that little heart develop, and witnessing literally the birth of a new life, that even a chicken can conquer even the worst odds.. Idk why but seeing this helped me spirituality.. Thank you for sharing this video and not giving up on the process.. You're an awesome human..
