I was in the locker room while this was filmed and had the privilege to play for Coach Burke while he was still at TPHS. He taught us how to be great players on the field but stressed that becoming men with great character off the field was a lot more important. My best memory of coach was when a scout team player got seriously injured during practice and he was the first one to run all the way across the field to comfort and help him off. This man genuinely cared for everybody around him.

Don’t we all brother...

this is how kids should be taught to play any sport. The playing field is hallowed ground, it is an honor to grace it. Take honor in crossing the threshold and give everything you have so regret never comes. even saying the words conjures up emotions deep within the soul of a competitor. win or lose, there is a rapture that cannot be described, only experienced. play every play, like it is the last play you ever get. amen

This speech will go down as one of the all time classic speeches in football...

My last Play Ever: I hit a fullback comeing up the middle on a dive play. I hit him so hard my shoulder splintered into 3 pieces and came through my back. I had to have 2 operations to replace my shoulder with an artificial one. 28 years later I still want one last play!!!!! I am proof that you never know when your last play will be, so go 120% wide open every play.

I had the priveledge for playing for Coach Burke many moons ago: 79-80. I still remember every talk he gave. What a great coach, but an even greater person.

I was on this team and in this locker room back in 1999. Coach Burke is a giant of a man!

Thank you Jesus for allowing fellowships to grow.

My team downloaded this onto our playlist. and before every game, we sit in the locker room with the lights off and let it sink in. MY LAST PLAY! it gets me so pumped!!

I remember my QB said on our last play ever saying: "H BOB PASS, H BOB PASS on 3 on 3! Hey Hey ,I love you ladies and I am ready to die right now for you guys, give all right now, 1...2...3! Bruins for life!" We went 2-8 on my senior year and that doesn't matter what matter was we went out as a team, for some of us we went out together for 5 years and what I can tell you for those who are about to be seniors or the last game that's coming up will make a huge impact on your young life and trust me I wish I could play high school ball with my family one more time.

man this brings tears to my eyes I loved football and didnt realize just how much until it was over my last play was on november 28 2008 third round state playoffs just won the state championship the year before and everybody said we would be nothing the next year we proved them wrong only came up one game short would have been one of the greatest moments in my life to have played in the state championship, game again but it wasnt meant to be. i go to this school now and i still remember ed burke and he was an awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! coach hes awesome

home playoff game in almost 18 years. We lost 34-31 but made a furious comeback after being down 28-9 with about 4 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. Those seniors changed the face of that program in just one season and have made our community and school football crazy once again. I am happy to say i was one of those seniors and I was proud of my last play in high school football because i was on the field with my teammates when the clock struck zero on our last season.

I'm on JV field hockey but we take the same buss as varsity and today was one of their biggest games of the season and they listened to this speech, took it to heart, and won the DCL championships. amazing speech.

My last play was a pass interference. 17 years ago. I still miss Football to this day.

Yesterday, before the game, Coach Swore show this awesome film to all the players.. We had a tough time last night. It was rainy and we did not do well in first half, but we still lost by 12-14... It is my first year play football in high school, actually is my first year in my life.. I only got few plays in last 1 minutes I was playing defensive tackle.. After game, everyone cried.. I am the senior, I not gonna put on helmet and pats on anymore.. The season is over....That was my last play...

My high school coach always preached last play. My school has had about 15 losing seasons in a row after nearly 25 years of dominating the football spectrum. This year we had one of our best defensive linemen go down with a career ending injury in the first game of the season. He was only a junior. I played at that school, the very 1st Senior class ever there (1975 season). This video is from 1999 San Diego Section C.I.F. football playoffs. This school had the highest winning percentage of any school in SD section of the C.I.F. (California Interscholastic Federation) during the whole 1990s decade--in spite of always playing in the section's toughest leagues. But...they actually lost this game they're showing in the vidro. Sorry-Haha! By the way, one of the plays spliced in the video is from the next year; namely the TD you see scored by #30 Antonacci. But all the rest of the scenes are probably from that same game with the speech.

football is 1 of the emotional games you can play.. if you dont pour your heart and soul and love the game you will ALWAYS fail.. if the line dont trust the backfield they wont die for them if the QB doesnt trust his line he will throw the ball away if the WRs dont trust the QB they wont run the routes full speed.

Ive been out of HS for 4 years and still miss playing under the lights on Fridays.

i remember my last play like it just happened.. it was uno lasso veer left i made the gaurd made a tag call to team up on his guy then i shed off and snot rocketed a LB flowing with the play and our fullback broke loose and i was lead blocking til i got blind sided and he was tackled bout 10 yards later.. i sat there at watch the clock tick down and choked back tears til us seniors huddled up 1 last time i looked over at my gaurd and QB also best friends and we all 3 cut loose at once..

I played for TP during Burke's final season, my junior year (2007), and we lost to Poway in the second round of playoffs (our first playoff game due to a bye). The jerseys in this video were our practice jerseys; and at the time of this speech, the CIF Championship game was still played at Jack Murphy Stadium, instead of Qualcomm Stadium, where it's been played in more recent years, including several trips led by Burke.

Last few years. Our rival highschool, would completely destroy our varsity.The last 3 years,we came back with vengeance, beat them both years. We went to the state championships one year, and the second we went again, the third year.One game away from making it back.This year though. our team didn't take ANYTHING serious.They thought we'd make it just because we did 3 years straight. They ended up going 2-10. But my team [JV], we destroyed everyone,we work as a team. we want to reunite the town.
