High up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, in an area known as the backcountry, Ray and Rosa Hicks lead a simple life. But they are not simple people.
Ray is the patriarch of American storytellers, He has received honors from President Reagan and the Smithsonian Institution. He is renowned for telling Jack Tales, episodic narratives that were brought to America by immigrants from the British Isles and which are at the heart of a storytelling renaissance.
But the Hicks' story is better than any Jack Tale.
This film celebrates Ray and Rosa's lives through the four seasons, presenting a year in the life of this special couple.
