Last of Lakeforest Mall, Gaithersburg, MD - Dead but not Forgotten

In this video, we walk around Lakeforest Mall, a landmark that has been slowly dying for years. Now, as the last vestiges of retail big farewell, observe a final glance into this giant.
One of the big Malls in the Montgomery County, MD area around 270, Lakeforest Mall survived the closure of White Flint Mall in 2015. Like White Flint, Lake Forest had a Lord and Taylor. Unlike White Flint, Lakeforest barely survived past the closure of it's Lord and Taylor, as the retail store's White Flint location successfully fought off being forced to close along with White Flint Mall and would remain at the location until all Lord and Taylor locations closed in 2019.
"Lakeforest Mall first opened on September 12, 1978. At that time, the mall's anchor stores were JCPenney, Sears, Woodward & Lothrop, and Hecht's. The mall was named in honor of Lake Walker, a man-made lake and park on the property prior. The mall opened with approximately 30-50 stores, with some of the first stores being relocated from the then nearby indoor Village Mall (now an outdoor strip mall called Montgomery Village Center since circa 1991) and absorbed onto the property. The mall was one of the first in the United States to feature an indoor ice skating rink on the lower level, in the "H section", along with being the biggest indoor shopping mall in the county at the time of grand opening. The rink has since been superseded first by a multi-theater movie complex, then by a food court, which now occupies the place."

I have been there off and on for the last 7-8 years, and I personally had the feeling it was in trouble. Which is sad, I would go to the Macy's and even the JC Penney up until they closed. But an interesting thing to note is that the maps haven't been upgraded since the four anchors were there, as seen in one of the pictures towards the end.

There is a tax prep store by the elevators, a clothing store, the Macys that is soon to be gone, and one or two other small stores. Not much though.

I see it in the forums sometimes, but the mall lose three anchors over two years ago now and Macy's is almost gone, so something big would have to happen to get them to change. It's a beautiful mall, almost as beautiful as White Flint was (Lord and Taylor's old spot is a personal favorite of mine.
