Exactly the same as his first wife except this time he's already got a new fiance lined up while they're in court. I saw it in the motel room with my twin brother, and in the just the opening minutes, I was HOOKED. But... what kept me as a fan forever was about halfway through the episode, when the whole show's focus switched over to the prosecutors! I'd never seen a show broken down like that; I grew up on Perry Mason reruns and Matlock, or cop shows. This was the first show I saw that did both, and did them both amazingly well! What I love about this episode is it's ambiguous ending. It's heavily implied but never proven that Dobson killed his wife. Smart, Lucky Innocent?

I agree that was brilliant. It got blunted a bit when, in a later season, the character came back when his second wife was murdered.

Like the prosecutor said, Could retrial, but no way for conviction. Just because both men appear at night club together doesn't mean hired guy to kill his wife. Where's solid evidence?

Coma was the second episode in McCoy's very first season (Season 5). I love that it ends with ambiguity as to whether or not Dobson actually did it-though in Encore a season later, that ambiguity flies right out the window and Dobson's revealed as the serial killer he is. I also love that while he didn't play Dobson again after that, Larry Miller did return as himself in the Season 13 finale Smoke.

IN the British police series, the Sweeney (aka the Flying Squad), they hunt down two Australian armed robbers, only in the end to find out they had already left England. Very unusual ending. But it resolved itself in a later episode, when the two, to the astonishment of the police, reappeared in England. Again, they were hunted down, and this time they were caught. lol

Going through a suspect's apartment without so much as gloves on? Even JUST touching the outside of the trigger guard and barely handling a jacket, in an actual court they'd still invalidate just about any evidence they'd find doing that. This is common with US crime dramas though, Columbo could be especially bad about mishandling evidence, unlike UK shows where forensics investigators wear full-body suits to avoid contamination of a crime scene or other area they search.
