LAST FLIGHT in the Cessna Citation M2, Pilot Vlog 78

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Pilot Vlog 78. today I'm flying the Cessna Citation M2 to the Flying Cloud Airport which is just outside Minneapolis, Minnesota. The airplane is going into a prebuy inspection and I drop it off at Elliott Aviation. I was supposed to take an Uber to MSP for a Southwest flight back to Saint Louis but, before he showed up I had to fly the airplane
one last time for an evaluation flight. After that I head over to the international airport and catch a later flight back home.

    4:23 I always love seeing shots like this. You usually (well, as a person that doesn't fly all that often) only see planes either on takeoff or landing and they aren't going THAT fast yet, seeing a plane shoot past a full speed high up in the air is always a cool sight!

    The GoPro cables are great! You can also get one that hooks into an audio recorder or a smart phone and record the comms separate from the GoPro if you want to have a mix of the comms and the ambient cabin noise from the GoPro. I've made one flying video so far and it worked out pretty well. I recommend a clap or something that will help you line up the audio tracks.

    I'm surprised that the company is turning the M2 around for a new one. The new 3000 Intrinsic system will be nice, if it wasn't installed on the one you're trading up. But, I guess the company knows what they're doing. Next time you're flying on Southwest, you need to see if they do one of those 'funny' safety briefings and record it, if you can get front row seat. Some of those attendants are really funny. Hey, you could even tell them you're a jet charter pilot when you get on board, just in case. :) Anyway, another nice video. I'll be looking forward to seeing the Caravan and the new M2.

    Honestly, I'm a limo driver. Sometimes , simply put, it seems my job is just to keep things moving forward. and at times that can be very challenging. I work for one man who owns a company which owns a bunch of aircraft. He's also is a partner in another aircraft I fly. I occasionally fly for his friends who own aircraft. In all of this several of the planes I fly may be sold or bought every year or even in a month which just recently happened. Unlike some flying jobs where you have a very specific position you fill for years I'm like a swiss army knife used for many different things.

    The M2 was a beautiful bird, so I can't wait to see the new jet. Its too bad Cessna decided to stop making the Mustang... I fly and own a Cirrus now and am looking for the next step or two in terms of aircrafts. The Mustang was on top of my list so I'll need to see what happens to pricing and availability of the Mustang on the used market. I flew an Evolution turboprop was well as a Piper M600 turboprop in the past week. The Evolution doesn't make sense for me as an experimental and the M600 cockpit seemed a little too cramped. TBM's are priced like jets, so it makes something like the Mustang pretty appealing long term for my mission. Good like with the next M2!

  • @captmoonbeam

    @captmoonbeam

  • @DonAv8s

    captmoonbeam It's all about a desire to go faster and further without a real mission that requires it. I was thinking of a good mid-step between Cirrus and something like a Mustang. The M600 cockpit was too cramped and speed to fuel burn wasn't great.

    Thanks for sharing, Jim. Love your videos. What kind of hours/experience do part 91 operators/insurance companies want to see before you can get a single pilot type rating? Is the M-2 part of the 500 series type rating?

  • @captmoonbeam

    @captmoonbeam

    7 жыл бұрын

    The M2 is a 525 type rating. So, the 500 doesn't cover it. What I've seen is them adding additional time required with a mentor pilot before they'll cover you single pilot and that time varies.

  • @Sycamoreguitarlessons

    @Sycamoreguitarlessons

    Why swap an aircraft with so few hours? Different options on the new one?

  • @captmoonbeam

    @captmoonbeam

    I was joking about the reason but, the buyer wanted a used plane and the seller was able to get a new one with a warranty on it. They both got what they were looking for and it was a win/win.

    No. But your operations specifications for a 135 operator may require it and often passengers will request two pilots.

    Cessna had a buyer who wanted a used low time M2. They also had a deal fall through with a new M2 coming off the assembly line. This was a three way deal that worked for everyone. We got the low time M2 and a fresh warranty.

    They also say maximum range is 1550 nautical miles which equates to 2867 km.. I imagine that is a ferry range with two pilots on board. adding 7 % for vectoring . it is a very close call. thanks for your input. Do you know about the Tamarac active winglets that are supposed to improve range? they are installed by Cessna and are FAA certified.
