Can someone explain the egg? It's an item that turns into a random unique/legendary?

It's an item you can choose from nemesis encounter rewards from what I can see so far

Basically, when you encounter a nemesis in the world you'll be presented with a few items that will drop once you kill the nemesis. One of those items has a chance to be an egg, which will let you either replace it with a unique of your choice, _or_ it'll reroll and drop as a random unique once you kill the nemesis. The idea is that if you have some 0LP unique like Twisted Heart or Wings of Argentus that you'd like to get some LP on, you'd find a nemesis with an egg, replace the egg with your unique, then empower the nemesis to raise the chances of adding LP or legendary affixes, and cross your fingers. Or, if you'd just like to gamble, you'd just fight the nemesis _without replacing the egg_ and see what unique the game gives you.
