Hello again Den! What I particularly like about this ant farm is that it also lets you monitor the ants quite well - while letting the ants do their thing! 🐜🐜🐜
Look for acrylic cement for gluing the nest in place. Much tidier! I have started doing these nests for most of my colonies this year.

hey there. I do actually try to keep some parts of the nest moist and others dry. The ants deliberately chose to build that chamber there and place the pupa in. I'd say they should know what's best for them🙂

Hello there. Congrats on your first colony! I would give them small drops of honeywater until the colony has around 20-25 workers. After that give them access to a small outworld (foiraging area) where you place a small piece of (pre-killed) mealworm or spider. Hopes this helps you out on your first steps. Also, here is a playlist for beginners in ant keeping that will provide you with additional tips😉 kzread.info/dash/bejne/gX162bSHgai3prg.html&ab_channel=AntsVienna
@MrNitidus

@@AntsVienna so I shouldn't give prekilled parted insects into first step? I've heard about possibility of intruder alert. If you wouldn't respond my plan was to give them small part of mealworm on foil. In 2-3 days. They have constant access to honey and water.
@AntsVienna
Жыл бұрын
If you try that with the foil then you need to place the mealworm piece as near as possible to the test tube entrance (cotton), since the ants will be using formic acid to desolve it and if they use to much they can kill themselves. This has happened to me with Camponotus workers in the past.

@AntsVienna

hello there. No, you should not worry right now - you should be worried IF the cotton starts turning green (mold). Should that happen I suggest placing the test tube of your colony in an outworld and provide them a second, clean test tube where they can move in if they feel they need too. Hope this helps you out!
