LASER to GEMSTONE? Exploring the World of Lab Grown Crystals

Lab-grown diamonds may be all the rage, but Stephen from Angry Turtle Jewelry and the Turtle's Hoard takes it a step further, creating fabulous faceted gemstones from lab-grown crystals used in lasers, medical scanners, even cell phones! Learn about the beauty of lab-grown crystals as Steven explains the many different combinations - all resulting in unique, beautiful gemstones! As Steven says, his lab-grown stones are "a by-product of civilization," discarded remnants of technology. Being beautiful is not the crystals' primary purpose - but it is a great side benefit! If you have ever wondered about lab-grown crystals, like affordable gemstones, or are just curious about something new, check out this video.

I love that you are looking at material that can be faceted. I hope you find some natural rough as well. The synthetic gem rough was quite an education for me. Thank You!!!

Jim picked up quite a bit of natural stone, but found that he didn't trust himself yet to buy the expensive stuff.

Iron doped LiNbO3 is also the crystal used in faraday rotators and optical isolators for Nd:YAG lasers. Used to use these materials for optoelectronic applications. The green in the yag crystals is chromium in the 3+ state. If i had this many synthetic crystals i would definitely have several cut and polished for opto and laser applications. ❤

These guys are amazing. I've worked in the world of ultrahigh power lasers the size of football fields used for nuclear fusion research for decades now and even I've never heard of some of the material they've got. CTH:YAG?!? I had to look that up!! Hope to be able to get there next year to see them and lots of other interesting people!

He took a lesson from a fellow over in the Tr-Cities, watched a lot of videos, and then practice practice practice! We plan to start making faceting videos for the channel.

First of all they're not fake, they're synthetic, there is a big difference. Secondly these are gems in amazing colors and properties that never occur in nature. If you've never seen them in person you're missing out.
