Laser Power Testing Array in Lightburn
In this video I show you how to create your own laser engraving test file in LightBurn. Performing a laser engraver test is crucial for ensuring your laser engraver is functioning properly and producing high-quality results. A laser engraver test file can be used to evaluate the accuracy and precision of the engraver, and it often contains a laser engraver test pattern for assessment. Lightburn is useful software for generating and running a laser test file. This is essentially a laser speed and power test to help determine the optimal settings for your engraver. If you’d like to learn how to create a laser engraver test file, this tutorial will help you.
The test we’ll be conducting is effectively a greyscale laser test, which involves engraving an image or vector of a LightBurn speed and power grid in grayscale and evaluating the tonal range produced by the grayscale laser engraving.
This is often referred to as a laser cutter test file or a LightBurn material test file. Ultimately they job is the same, which is to evaluate the ability of the laser cutter to accurately and cleanly cut through different materials by running a laser engraving test pattern.

Just got my first laser and thank you for the detailed walkthrough in creating one of these. First time for Lightburn for me. For those who don't know, instead of selecting text and hitting duplicate, you can hit Alt+Enter and it will drop down one cell while still in the same text box. This works for most Windows-based programs like excel, outlook, etc. then you can set the Align-X at the top to Left and it will all line up nicely.
Thank you... I wasn't aware of the Shape Properties option to adjust parameters in sequence. This a really polished method to get the information you need. Thanks for sharing. Very cool.

Have you got a link to your lightburn file that you created for the Atomstack A5M50 Pro as I have the same machine but can't get the setting right. I need a tried and tested burn file if you would be so kind?
Great video lot of detail. But do you know that in the version of Lightburn that you have there is a tool that does all of this automatically for you without drawing anything. It is under the Laser Tools dropdown at the top call Material Test. Around 60 seconds to input your parameters including shape size and speed settings and you're off to the races. Try it..

Hi Martin, thanks for the feeeback. Yes I am aware of this and I will likely cover it in a separate video. The reason I did it the long way is primarily to help complete beginners understand the process and learn the basics of Lightburn

I'm new to lightburn. How do you find out where the tool has its starting point in order to place material on the build plate in the correct location? I'm using an Ender 3 conversion kit.
what gives the laser t-55 speed?
