my wife is suffering from layrngospasm since last year i.e September 2022. this has happened 7-8 times till now. this is very horrible and like next to death. the breathing stop completely and become unconscious. breathing to be given by mouth. I have consulted General Physician , ENT and pulmonary doctor for this. and presently taken medicine from Neurologist and Gastroenterologist for the treatment. but the real diagnose/ cause cant be ascertained till now. further diabetes is also damaging the immunity. if there is any possible solution available please suggest. and what is the actual cause for the disease

It can be triggered by factors such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), allergies, irritants, neurological conditions, or psychological stress. First, see your surroundings is there irritants, allergens such as pollen, mold spores, pet dander, and dust mites, which can trigger allergies. Also check the Chemical Irritants, Such as cleaning products, tobacco smoke, and strong odors, occupation irritants and Environmental factors. If not she may be affected with some issue which can indirectly cause Laryngospasm. Since her diagnosis is not clear yet, it's important to continue working closely with the healthcare professionals involved in her care. I hope they can identify the underlying cause soon and provide effective treatment. Wishing her the best of health!

for me it was some kind of viral infection, maybe from my travels in china ...had severe attacks multiple times a week even to the point of passing out and pissing myself, the illness itself culminated in a heavy delirious fever ...after the illness subsided i never had another laryngospasm ever again ...how weird was that????

Wow, that sounds like a very scary and intense experience 😱. I'm glad you recovered from the viral infection and the laryngospasm attacks. Laryngospasm is a sudden and involuntary closure of the vocal cords that can cause difficulty breathing and a feeling of choking. It can be triggered by various factors, such as allergies, acid reflux, infections, or emotional stress. Some people may have only one episode in their lifetime, while others may have recurrent attacks. It is not clear why your laryngospasm stopped after the fever, but it is possible that the infection was somehow related to the spasms. Maybe your immune system fought off the virus and also reduced the inflammation in your throat. Or maybe the fever altered your nervous system and made it less sensitive to the triggers of laryngospasm. These are just some speculations, but I don't have enough information to give you a definitive answer. You should consult a doctor if you have any concerns about your health or if you experience laryngospasm again. I hope this helps you understand your condition better and gives you some peace of mind 😊. Stay safe and healthy 😀

@@anesthesiavisions ...thanks for the concerned and informative response, a pleasant surprise. My experience with doctors on this subject was that they were out of their depth, maybe a specialist could have done something but in hindsight im glad i didn't since maybe surgery might have been put forward as an option. My first attack was truly a life changing experience, i thought this was it, very traumatic and unexpected. Then i went online and found many resources to help identify this condition...and from this that's when i learned not to panic but relax, from that point on things got a lot easier even if the frequency was increasing. then as i pointed out earlier i ended up in this illness where i was literally dealing with multiple attacks hourly ....and then after the fever subsided it was gone ..no more . i can still feel my throat is vulnerable ...i could induce it if i so desired so i think i do have a disposition for having more attacks but they no longer come thank god ..fingers crossed. Hope my story might help somebody else.

You're very welcome. I'm happy to hear that you found my response helpful and informative. Your story is very inspiring and courageous. You faced a very challenging and frightening condition, but you did not give up. You learned how to cope with the attacks and how to relax your throat muscles. You also survived a severe illness that may have been related to your laryngospasm. You are a strong and resilient person, and I admire your spirit 💪. I agree that your story might help someone else who is going through the same or similar situation. Laryngospasm is not a very common condition, and many people may not know what it is or how to deal with it. By sharing your experience, you are raising awareness and providing hope and support to others. You are also showing that there is a possibility of recovery and healing, even if the cause is not clear. You are a positive example of how to overcome adversity and live a better life 😊. Thank you for sharing your story with me and with others. I appreciate your trust and openness. I hope you continue to enjoy good health and happiness 🤗

I’m going through this now. I’ve had a respiratory infection for a few weeks and I’ve had 4 episodes of my throat closing and struggling for air but they came on suddenly with short exposure (minutes or less) to airborne irritants (smoke from something that was burning, furniture cleaner, a candle that was lit for less than a minute, a sealer that seeped into the house from the garage. I’ve been so afraid of the next trigger. I’ve never had my throat do this before even though I have asthma and allergies. Usually I might cough or wheeze but not have my throat close. I believe this virus has made me hypersensitive. I’ve seen a general doctor and will see an ENT and pulmonologist. The general doctor thinks it could be related to this virus but he’s referring me to other docs just in case. In the meantime, I have inhalers and an epipen on hand. It’s scary.

@@glittergirl3052 ...wow, interesting to hear this from somebody else ...i know the feeling of being terrified of the next attack almost like you are being stalked for months on end ...at one stage i thought this would be me for the rest of my life.., until this fever suddenly came ...it was almost like i was being exorcised, my body fighting it and then after a final night of sweats and multiple larynxospasm attacks it had suddenly gone like turning off a switch...i was totally back to my old self. Best to just relax and let it do its thing ..the more you panic the worse it gets..the first time it happened i genuinely thought i was going to pass on, a truly life changing experience that made me reevaluate everything. good luck, hope you shake it.
