Larry Brooks of the New York Post on Canucks coach John Tort

Ойын-сауық

New York Post sports columnist Larry Brooks and new Canucks coach John Tortorella have had sometimes tense relationship, dating to Tortorella's New York Rangers days. The two were back together Thursday for the first time since Torts left New York.

The fact that Torts calls him Brooksie significant. That's a team type nickname - the chirps with him were for the publicity.

This made good news lol, it's a symbiotic love hate relationship between two men doing their jobs. Don't think for one minute bonds aren't built between the coaches, players, and the newsmen that cover them. He calls him Brooksie for fuck sakes, thats a hockey players bond. The fact a journalist gets called that by him is a sign of some respect to a degree. He may be a pain in the ass certainly, but Tortorella calling him that shows that he is in the "boys" club.

@@thecrusader7685 Duration doesn't mean much when you're the fourth biggest sport in your country at best. Brooks is a clown. He has a job because he basically just writes sports-tabloid articles.

@@thecrusader7685 This is the kind of shit Brooksie writes "But though this time Ovechkin was able to survive his nemesis, Sidney Crosby, let’s not rush to rewrite history and airbrush The Great 8’s blemishes out of the picture. After losing last year’s second-round Game 7 to the Penguins, Ovechkin was told that he was fat by a player he respects. He reported this year in condition befitting a 32-year-old." Now, let's get some context, this was right after Ovechkin had won the Stanley Cup, and anybody with any marbles between their ears that watched the Capitals knows that he was *NEVER* the reason why the Caps didn't advance past the second round those many years. Ovi always wore his heart on his sleeve, put up points (and more importantly goals) and hit as many people as possible - aka what he's paid to do.

The Crusader who cares what he’s “covered.” Did he ever play the sport? Did he ever coach it? Even just USA Hockey Level 1 certification? Coach amateurs or professionals? Writing about something just because you’re a fan or you like something doesn’t mean anything. Maybe he’s been covering it for 40 years cause he sucked at covering something else? Who knows. I’m not in that market or area of the country. But when you’re on KZread for getting clowned by a professional sports person it’s not a good look. As a writer you’re not supposed to be a part of the storytelling. Brooks seems to relish that. Makes for great theater but not a great journalist. I’m sure he never misses his opportunity to be at a JT press conference.

Brooks is probably the media equivalent of the Tortorella personality and character. Hence, the consistently idiotic blow-ups between the two. Too much gunpowder and TNT in the stunt effects. From a coaching perspective, it is good to see Tortorella out of the NHL. From a journalism perspective, now that Tortorella is bye-bye for good, perhaps Brooks can go back to making things less about him vs Tortorella and more about the teams he is covering.
