Dominique understands that LB was honoring him. Bird rarely wastes his breath talking about other players. Dominique is the one guy he continues to smack talk. He knows Dominique will laugh and take the compliment.

If you watch that 88 series, Dominique guarded Bird most of the game, where as Bird was rotated off of Nique and put on a guy that got fewer touches. Smart strategy by the Celtics, but Bird can't claim to be a great one on one defender either. Dominique always had decent steals numbers considering he was a 6'8 forward.

I don't think he would claim to be a great defender, just better than nique. Bird played hard wherever he was on the court.

Bird was a strong and a smart defender. Not the best? So what? That's a garbage comment, that could be said about every career. Tom Brady is the best quarterback of all time....Then you say. Tom Brady didn't have the best knees. So what? Jennifer Lopez has a great ass? Then you say, she wasn't the best singer. You struck a never Pal. Don't be a Debbie Downer.

He did OK on defense because of pure hustle, but to pretend that he was some defensive genius in nonsensical. Michael Jordan won Defensive Player of the Year in 1988, and made the all NBA Defensive FIRST team 9 times. You see, that is the resume of a GREAT defender! Now, do you see the difference between an OK defender and a great defender? 🤔

1 on 1 Dominique may win that match but 5 on 5 Bird would lock him up better than the other way around. In a 5v5 Bird would guard Lebron and Dominique the same way, u step back and try and predict where they will shoot it from, and 6'9 Bird is already in the perfect spot to stop most drive plays, so then it becomes Nique vs Bird who scores more and even if Nique scored more Celtics still win. Maxwell/Mchale/Parish are elite defenders and would hold Nique's teammates to under double digits so there really is no contest whether Bird guards Nique or not. Bird is getting 30 off limited touches and his team is flowing. Nique scores 45 and it was 1v5 or 2v5 all game lmao. They had Nique scared to try anything while his team was getting blown out by 30 in the 3rd quarter, best defense in the league now too shook to even remember to stay on Bird
