Anything Rebecca and Megan write or cover turns to gold. My faves for years. Watching them evolve and hit their stride has been an honor. They are two of the kindest most genuine people on this planet.

"Mad as a hatter" is a colloquial English phrase used in conversation to suggest (lightheartedly) that a person is suffering from insanity. It is believed to emanate from Luton, Bedfordshire, in eastern England, where men in the area worked predominantly in the hattery business, which used mercury in the hat making process. The accumulation of mercury in the body causes symptoms similar to madness. The earliest known appearance of the phrase in print is in an 1829 issue of Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine.

Love Larkin Poe! You guys need to check out their new single Holy Ghost Fire. It's amazing! They also did a killer version of John the Revelator. The whole mad as a hatter thing comes from hat makers using mercury in creating their hats back in the 1800's. The exposure to mercury over time would cause mental problems ie insanity.

There are three sisters, they all used to be in a band called the Lovell Sisters till the older Sister left. Jess left the band to plan her wedding and to plan going to College, Megan and Becca formed Larkin Poe. Larkin Poe is the name of there Great-Great-Great-GrandFather and was a Cousin of Edgar Allan Poe.

oh cool. This is a great band. Didn't really expect them to show on this channel but these ladies are super talented. Deserving of an 11. And I can probably count on one hand the number of women I've seen play a lapsteel guitar. Something along the same lines but a little more blues hard rock is Blues Pills.

And of course, madness is said to run in their family, as noted by Edger Allan Poe, their great grand uncle. I saw them on Audiotree, where I've heard every act there. They came prepared. I really love it when Megan Lovell hits her steel guitar, and in this one she intentionally goes way off dischord, which is amazing. Two other acts that came prepared and stood head and shoulders over every other act to have ever been on Audiotree are: Mandoline Orange (Golden Embers) and Little Hurricane (Mt Senorita or Crocodile Tears)

It was mercury used to make the hats. Very common in the past for hat makers to go nuts due to mercury poisoning, much like actors with their face paints.

The Queen demanded that all roses be red. She made them paint the white roses red, every day. She didn't appreciate that a rose by any color than red is still a beautiful rose. If you haven't watched Alice in Wonderland, it's a must. The newer one with Johnny Depp is awesome, too. Through the Looking Glass is basically Alice part 2. Definitely check them all out. Your childhood was adulthood if you didn't see Alice in Wonderland. The book is great, too. You've GOT to see the original AIW, at least. You'll thank me afterwards. Now, get to painting those roses red, or it'll be off with your head!!!!

Ya I always interpreted this song as being about seeing loved ones succumb to mental disease while being aware that it's in their genetics and could one day come for them. I might be self projecting as it's exactly the way I felt seeing my grandmother go through it.
