Large scale R/C car carb tuning.

This is just a quick and simple how to, on how to (haha) adjust the low speed on your carb in your largescale r/c. When it warms up I will post a vid on how to adjust the high speed needle.
This is a CY23cc with a Walbro WT-813 carb and a seX-can...
If you have any questions, just ask...
The link to DDM...
www.davesmotors.com/site/index...
Before you start posting statements, I will address them now...
No it does NOT hurt the gasoline motor to rev the piss out of them like that. Especially with this POS seX-Can. This motor isn't even coming close to top rpm... If I put my Jet Pro pipe on it, then you would hear some RPM...
If somebody tells you that a seX-Can is better than the stock can, they are either uninformed or just flat out lying... They are about the same performance wise, the seX-Can is just 3 times louder... That's the only difference..
Hope you enjoyed.

Dude, I know this vid is quite old now but probably the best informative clip I've watched. I was having a nightmare with my 1st 5th scale not tuning. Which was more to do with me not knowing what I was doing properly, until I watched this vid and realised the LOW NEEDLE was LEAN... WOW who knew... well obviously not me at the time.. great clip thanks

in my situation i got everything running good, when i lift it off the ground and give it full throttle the rpms get really high and it sounds like it nearly runs 40 mph. but when i put it on the ground and give it full throttle the rpms sound a lot lower and it only runs about 25mph max. prob 20mph honestly. one problem that i noticed is that my breaks are really tight and sometimes engages when i left off throttle but i fixed that but like i said, once i put it on the ground and it has to move its body weight it doesn't wanna run like a bat out of hell. its a 5th scale rampage XB with a 30cc 2 stroke on it. have any tips??

@scoobysnacks18 Is the tank vent line clear? If it's plugged the fuel pump in the carb will start to create a vacuum in the tank. Think of a juice box, if you suck the straw it will collapse in the sides of the juice box, as soon as you break the seal the box returns to normal. Your fuel tank can do the same thing if the vent is plugged. When your truck died, did it have fuel in the primer bulb on the carb? Can you get it running again? If so, post a vid of it running. Let me know, PDS..

@scoobysnacks18 Before you throw anymore money at that motor, you may want to consider looking for a Zenoah, or at least a Cheng Yeng (CY) these are much better motors, plus you can buy parts to repair them as well as bigger pistons and longer cranks. Keep an eye on Ebay or Craigslist. I see them all the time go for 50 bux. You say the spark looked weak, was it checked with the plug or did you test it with a spark tester? How was it weak, was it orange?

It will go too lean if you have the HS needle closed, when you close off the needle it stops the flow of fuel. Back the needle out to 1.5 turns aprox and start over. If it still won't run properly pull the car and intake off and make sure you have the gasket on correctly, make sure the holes in the gasket line up with the pulse port, it's easy to put the gasket on backwards.

  • @Poopdogsays

Matt Stroud the carb settings are about all the same for all these carbs. The problem you'll run into with your carb is that it's a Chinese knockoff of a walbro and is rather low quality and usually won't hold a tune. I would recommend picking up a genuine walbro, it will make your life a whole lot easier. Check out ddm racing most parts are interchangeable with the fg stuff and duratrax firehammer mt.

@scoobysnacks18 This hobby gets very expensive when you start replacing parts that don't need to be replaced. If the spark looked weak, it's a good bet that the plug is bad. I would start there as it's only 5 bux. I have well over 50 gallons of fuel ran and I'm still on my original coil. As far as the fuel tank, the vent line is the black rubber tube that is zip tied it to the rear shock tower and sometimes the vent gets pinched or fills with dirt. I've heard those SQ motors won't hold a tune.

To start... When engine is cold, close choke and pull recoil until engine "pops" turn off choke, pull till it starts. If engine is warm or hot, leave choke alone, pull pullstart. If you cant get engine to start, try advancing the idle slightly by either giving a little throttle om the controller, or by screwing in the idle screw (big silver screw) If one is new to this hobby, i highly recommend getting the wheels off the ground with a stand, a block of wood, taking off the tires etc. These things can hit 40+mph and its enough to really hurt somebody. Please be safe!
