Laps with Kirk Episode 23 600hp 1969 Mustang Mach 1 Pacific Raceways July 16, 2020

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Adam Harris brought his brand new 1969 Mustang Mach 1 build out to Pacific Raceways in Kent WA for a test. I was lucky enough to have him ask me to photograph the car in the morning and drive it in the afternoon. Its a 600hp 408 stroker with all-modern suspension underneath. Its quite a beast and it REALLY wants to kill you but its an absolute blast to drive. Didn't want to go too hard on it as the brakes need a bit more love. But, I did get a full sense of what this car will be capable of with a couple more tests and tweaks. Thanks Adam!!

It’s hard to believe Ford put four-wheel drum brakes on these things out of the factory. My ‘67 Fastback was scary as hell in a bad way. A quarter-turn of slop in the wheel combined with front drum brakes and 320 HP was a bad idea.

So what you're talking about is a modern race car in an old skin. I had a 428CJ Mach 1 and it didn't drive like that, didn't sound like that, didn't handle like that and certainly didn't stop like that. Calling it a 1969 Mustang Mach 1? Hardly.

@@mcmotorsportsdesign6197 First thanks for the reply. I raced bikes there years ago in late 80's early 90's, that transition from the last turn to the straight away was always hairy, especially when wet. Saw some friends bite it hard there with tank slappers. They finally put some chicanes in to try and slow down the speeds in the transition, it just caused more problems. The real issue was the cement burnout patch being slick as greased owl sh**. Great video and car. Don't live there anymore but I sure have some fond memories of the place.

Yup. This day was the first shakedown of the car. It was awesome but there were lots of little needs to be addressed before I or anyone else would feel comfortable really wringing its neck. Wait for the next one. The owner has another 69 in the works that should make this one look like a Sunday cruiser.

That's funny Kerry. Thanks for that. It was the car's first day at the track and we were just out to figure out what it needed. We knew it would go fast. We just didn't know if it would turn or stop. That's the reason for the tentative driving. Once its fully sorted and we get it back out there, we'll do another one at speed.

He said the brakes needed work. So, would you be driving a '69 Mustang with 600 hp flat out with sketchy brakes? You could tell he was checking everything out and he was driving it carefully. Besides, it is not his car. Maybe next time read the video introduction before commenting?
